The JapAniManga Night is much smaller than Polymanga but the main j-pop fair in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. It takes place in a former 19th century army building in Winthertur, near Zürich. Everyone there speaks both Swiss-German, English and...Japanese! The event lasts 48 hours non-stop. The organizers also offer 3 types of accomodation (in the rooms of the building, in the local nuclear shelter or, you can also lay in sleeping bag on the floor in the building). With only about 500-600 visitors, the atmosphere is really cosy and a bit like a big family gathering. Quite a different experience from the Polymanga and other huge fairs!

This is one of my favorite resources website for anything manga and animes. It isn't updated very often, as you'll see, but it remains a great place where to find academic articles and reviews.

Chibi Japan Marseilles is, as the name indicates, a smaller and Southern version of the now famous Japan Expo, which takes place in Paris later in the year. It is also more focused on mangas, animes and video-games, whereas Japan Expo also gives a fair share of its space to "traditional" Japan. Chibi Japan Marseilles will take place February 20-22, 2009. If you are in Southern France by then, don't hesitate to stop by.

This is the largest manga fair in the French-speaking area of Swizterland and has been existing for 5 years. It will take place April 11-13, 2009. If you are in Swizterland at this time of the year, don't miss it! You can see how Swiss manga fans celebrate their passion!

This is a new convention taking place 14-15 March 2009 at the Federal Insitute of Technology of Lausanne (French-speaking part of Switzerland) and organized by the student organization called PolyJapan. Contrary to other more commercial conventions, this one is only aimed at promoting Japanese modern culture. If you are in the region, don't hesitate to pay them a visit!
