OER, a part of the global open content movement, are shared teaching, learning, and research resources available under legally recognized open licenses -- free for people to reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute. Why are OER important? High-quality OER can save teachers significant time and effort on resource development and advance student learning inside and outside the classroom.

Technology integration is the use of technology resources -- computers, mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, digital cameras, social media platforms and networks, software applications, the Internet, etc. -- in daily classroom practices, and in the management of a school.

Are you prepared to step out of the box? Before watching this video, what I knew about TPACK was limited. I found this video useful because it clearly states we need to integrate context, pedagogy and technology.

A video in which there is an example of how TPACK is used in hands on context in learning of Biology and Maths. Possum magic' demonstrates the key elements of TPACK in a hands-on learning context. Students at Pallara State School in Queensland monitor possum activity using 24 hour surveillance cameras linked to their classroom computers. They learn Science, Biology and Maths content through this project. Pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge and technological knowledge are embedded and integrated in an authentic deep learning collaboration.

In this school, there is also an online voice recorder for students to ask experts their questions.

Bruce McCandliss, professor in Stanford's Graduate School of Education and the director of the Stanford Center for Mind, Brain and Computation, speaks about brain-imaging technology that is revolutionizing the study of educational experiences and their effect on the brain.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In her TEDxJacksonville talk, she vividly depicts the incalculable value of memory and movement, and the devastating biological effects of these diseases on the brain. She also details recent advances in computing technology that may help elucidate treatment targets for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. "We are now building revolutionary computer simulations of neurons," she explains, "so we can have better insight into the molecular behaviors of neural cells so we can see a play-by-play of the interworking of neurons rather than static pictures frozen in time."

This could be addition to Elanur's "All in the mind?" post. There is often a big divide between what happens in the laboratory and the way laboratory findings are practically applied. The relationship between neuroscience research and education is no exception. While there are numerous educational products that claim to be based on neuroscience research (often quite dubiously so), the real impact of brain-based research on education has been much more subtle.

There is no agreement on whether studying the way the brain works can help improve educational outcomes, but the discussion is a hot topic amongst educational experts.

As methods of imaging the brain improve, neuroscientists and educators can now identify changes in children's brains as they learn, and start to develop ways of personalizing instruction for kids who are falling behind.
