After more than two years of hints and leaks, the long-awaited Amazon phone appears to be almost ready for its debut.

"Following the successful launch of its Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon are reportedly busy readying a smartphone competitior to go up against the iPhone in 2012."

As per DigiTimes, a Taiwanese agency reported that Foxconn, the leading contract-based maker has acquired orders for making some number of smartphones for Microsoft and Amazon. It is said that these phones would touch shelves in mid phase of next year (2013).

Amazon newly launched its Android-powered tablet, Kindle Fire, now has planned to acquire webOS, smartphones and tablet operating system, which is currency owned by Hewlett-Packard, a report from LATimes.

"HP is reportedly preparing a deal to sell webOS for "hundreds of millions of dollars", with the likes of Amazon in the running to purchase the platform."

"The internet is buzzing with speculation suggesting that Amazon could put in a bid for Canadian smartphone manufacturer Research In Motion. The Blackberry makers have had a rough year, with product delays, network outages and declining profits and share value, making it the perfect target for Amazon's ruthless acquisition strategy."
