This website gives information on the history and on the mission of the church today. It is intresting to see the changes that tookplace and the involvement they had with the community during the civil rights era.

A historically all black church that was built for the black Catholics in Lexington. Because of segregation or racial tendecies held by the majority of white people in Lexington, the black Catholics were not permitted in the two white Catholic churches.

This gives a vague overview for people who want to learn some intresting facts about this amazing women from Kentucky and the things she was able to accomplish during her time as a senator for 21 years in Kentucky.

This is the interview of Mrs. Powers and is extremely beneficial to our study of her. I think she was one of the most influential women of all time. She was able to influence and change so many lives in Kentucky and through out the south.

This is another example of a women that was able to achieve equality with the men in her town based on her economic status. She should also be known for acquiring and holding on to her businesses herself.

I found it extremely intresting that a Kentucky women born before women had the right to vote could make such a huge impact not only on a state level or a nation wide level, but on an international level, like Lena Phillips was able to accomplish in her lifetime.

This website offers information about Mrs. Phillips, a Kentucky graduate who formed a national and then international group or club for the equality of women through business and economic stand points. The group is called the International Federation of Business and Professional Women.

This website gives information on one of the churches in my group project. The church was built for the black catholics in Lexington due to segregation in the two other catholic churches. The website offers the history of the church, which also had a school, even though most of the students were not catholic. Despite the racial segregation between the catholic churches in Lexington, St. Peter Claver did not recieve a black preist until the year 2000.

This website is very valuable because it offers a timeline begining in 1848 and extending until today. It displays conventions, names, and location of key points in the struggle for women's rights. It also has many names that when clicked on, leads you to more information about such person. Very valuable.

I really liked what the University of Louisville was doing to try to impower the lives of the women students and the women living in Jefferson County. The goal of the Women's Center is to promote equality between men and women, increase the self reliance of women and to display and demonstrate everything that women do for society. The goal is to change the mindset of both men and women who are living in a different era and to show that women are capable of accomplishing anything that a man is capable of accomplishing.

This forum is set up by the law school atthe University of Louisville and focuses much of its time on discussing issues such as gay marriage, affirmative action, disability rights, domestic violence, racial profiling, and other topics. Since 1992 when created the forum has expanded and is really making an impact at the University by focusing on diversity among the students and faculty in the Brandeis Law School at the University of Louisville.

This is a website created by the University of Louisville and focuses on influential women from the time period who influenced the communities of Louisville. Some of the women mentioned are Mae Street Kidd, Ruth Booker Bryant and Thelma Stovall, who all played signifacant roles in the Civil Rights Movement in Louisville during the 50's, 60's and 70's.

SNYC was created in 1937 after a group of young blacks from Virginia traaveled to the National Negro Congress meeting in Chicago, Illinios in 1936. The newly created SNYC created campaignes for anti-lynching in the south and after 12 years had chapters in 10 states with 11,000 members across the United States and the south despite being watched by the FBI. They laid the groundwork for the civil rights movement in the south by getting many people incolved in the human rights movement.

On June 1, 1956 all NAACP offices were forced to shut down in Alabama so a new organization was needed in Birmingham and throuhgout the southern state. The organization ran by a minister, focused on getting black police officers in Alabama, desgregation of the public schools and was associated by SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference).

The committee was designed to create more southern white involvment in social change for equal human rights across the south. Made rally's for womens rights, black rights, and anti-Vietnam war movement in south. Associated with SDS (Students for Democratic Society), which was dangerous to support in the south at that time. Including the relevant Cold War and communist that could be in the United States. They spent most of their time investigating left wing democrates, including Carl Braden, Anne Bradens husband and the Black Civil Rights Movement. The committee no longer exist and the website discuss the past of the group.

The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom was an organization used by Anne Braden in Louisville to keep in touch on a national level, to discuss issues going on all across the United States. Braden was also involved in Women's for Peace Group associated in Louisville and shared information with both groups. The website discuss the goals of todays organization and provides history of the organization.

This website shows information on people who went to extreme links to spread their ideas of gender fairness and civil rights activism

I know this already happened, but this site discuss some history of Kentucky women and the idea that women's history needs to be recorded and spread, espically history prior to 1970. It goes into some detail about how schools around the nation are begining to increase the importance of womens history and support the research that will create more womens history.

This website offers basic information in regards to the neighborhood. the site contains information on a project designed to refurbish and renovate many of the historical buildings in the old Lexington neighborhood.
