    If they built backdoors into not only email, but a service like say skype, what would stop them from remotely accessing the webcams on people's personal computers, or even cell phones? I could see how it could be somewhat beneficial to intercept communications of known wrong doers in an attempt to reduce crime and terrorism, but how does crime prevention allow the government freedom to invade privacy. There should be an international networking ethics and standards committee created, kind of like W3C only mostly dealing with ethical use of network systems...
