I am convinced that as people begin to see the limited performance of existing approaches to emissions reductions, and as the toll of climate-related disasters grows due to ever-increasing vulnerabilities, there will be a shift to a more short-term-focused approach to climate mitigation and adaptation.

So I am going to stand pat with our conclusions first presented in 2005: [T]here are good reasons to expect that any conclusive connection between global warming and hurricanes or their impacts will not be made in the near term. That is where things stand on this subject at the close of 2007.

We hope to have participants from around the world moderate an hour long conversation. This conversation can be planned at the discretion of the moderator(s) for that hour. To start with, the game is completely FREE (I love that word). Better than that, this is a perfect game simulation for middle school and high school teachers looking to provide a reflective learning experience for students interested in how the environment is affected by choices made by local or state government concerning energy production and use. It combines the addictiveness of Lemonade Stand with the deep control and management tools of SimCity. With only 150 turns to create a thriving economy and growing population based on realistic environmental practices, I thought I would be presented with simplistic choices, and be railroaded into some pre-scripted "save the Earth, reduce energy consumption", but I was happily wrong.

As 22nd April is "Earth Day", I have proposed to a group of students to publish a post about ENVIRONMENT. The students´ posts will be published during the month of April in their blogs at http://www.pageflakes.com/anamariacult . On this specific day, people all over the world will be writing, reading and discussing about environmental problems and solutions. I´ve come across several videos and sites related to the topic and would like YOU to have a look at them.

Climate change is already affecting our lives and the places we live, and has the potential to dramatically impact the lives of future generations. The Nature Conservancy is joining with policy makers, community members, businesses, scientists, industry leaders and others to slow the pace of climate change. We work to reduce the accumulation of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere and help natural areas adjust to the impacts of climate change.

A funny thing happened just before a ceremony was to be held last week to commemorate a $3 million sea wall around the village of Kivalina way up on Alaska's Arctic coastline. The village, home to Inupiat natives for 4,000 years, is about to be washed into the sea, and the 1,800-foot wall is supposed to stop that. Alaska There's growing evidence that villages in the far North like Kivalina, Alaska, are being eaten up by the ocean due, at least in part, to global warming. Global warming is one of the most serious challenges facing us today. To protect the health and economic well-being of current and future generations, we must reduce our emissions of heat-trapping gases by using the technology, know-how, and practical solutions already at our disposal.

The IPCC was established to provide the decision-makers and others interested in climate change with an objective source of information about climate change. The IPCC does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Its role is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the latest scientific, technical and socio-economic literature produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of the risk of human-induced climate change, its observed and projected impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. IPCC reports should be neutral with respect to policy, although they need to deal objectively with policy relevant scientific, technical and socio economic factors. They should be of high scientific and technical standards, and aim to reflect a range of views, expertise and wide geographical coverage.
