Windows to the Universe is a user-friendly learning system covering the Earth and Space sciences for use by the general public. Windows to the Universe has been in development since 1995. The project started, with support from NASA for a proposal submitted by Dr. Roberta Johnson, Director of Windows to the Universe, to NASA while she was on the Research Faculty at the University of Michigan's Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences. In 2000, Dr. Johnson moved with the project to the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), where she continued development on the project with her talented staff on numerous grants and contracts over the past decade. In 2010, website management and ownership moved to the National Earth Science Teachers Association, where we will be expanding opportunities to collaborate with the project - with the hope that it becomes a platform for Earth and space science education globally.

Digital Disruption is a specialist education project that develops and distributes the tools and training to improve young people's critical digital judgement skills. Digital judgement combines 'traditional' critical thinking skills, such as source verification, with 'new' knowledge about how the digital world works, such as understanding search engines and YouTube.

We decided to fill in the gap by developing an honest, accurate, and balanced curriculum that would help students understand and exercise their digital rights and responsibilities. Working with educators from around the country, we aimed to design a fun and flexible plan that would not just provide information, but also help foster basic skills in research, writing, and critical thinking.

Citizen Schools partners with middle schools to expand the learning day for low-income children across the country. Since 1995, students at Citizen Schools have developed the academic and leadership skills they need to succeed in high school, college, the workplace, and civic life.

DesignBlocks is a drag-and-drop programming language based on Scratch, TurtleArt and Processing. It is being developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab. DesignBlocks is currently in beta and we are actively seeking feedback. The current system is based on ActionScript3, and we are currently experimenting with HTML5 as well.

Founded in 1994, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is a nonprofit organization supporting the study and love of American history through a wide range of programs and resources for students, teachers, scholars, and history enthusiasts throughout the nation. Our Courts is a web-based education project designed to teach students civics and inspire them to be active participants in our democracy. Our Courts is the vision of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who is concerned that students are not getting the information and tools they need for civic participation, and that civics teachers need better materials and support. Current resources on the site include: quality online lesson plans and links to teaching resources and each branch of government in your state. These resources, written and compiled by classroom teachers, are practical solutions to classroom needs. For students, we have interactive features like Civics in Action, and Talk to the Justice, where students can tell each other and Justice O'Connor about their opinions and their civic participation. Now Available: Our Courts Games In August 2009, Our Courts launched its first online civics games: Do I Have A Right? and Supreme Decision. In February, Our Courts released Argument Wars where players argue landmark Supreme Court cases. A growing body of research shows that games have extraordinary potential for promoting learning and civic engagement. Games also have the potential to inspire 24/7 learning for young students; in fact, a recent Pew report showed that 97% of teenager play video games! Teachers Justice O'Connor believes that education-and teachers-are the indispensable cornerstones of a successful democracy. Her vision requires that teachers be the foundation of the Our Courts project design. Teachers and curriculum specialists have guided every aspect of the Our Courts project's development. They defined learning goals, crafted hypothetical problems to captivate middle school students, ensured alignment to state standards, drafted lesson plans, and vetted game dynamics. Welcome to Share the Skies, the nation's first statewide initiative that enables students and teachers to study astronomy in real time during the daytime without leaving the classroom. This innovative project was developed by the Virginia Department of Education, New Mexico Skies, Software Bisque, and Virginia Tech's Institute for Connecting Science Research to the Classroom. It enables Virginia students to access and control research-grade telescopes to explore Australia's night skies via the Internet. Students use CCD (charge-coupled device) imaging techniques to capture digital images of deep space for further study.

The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) is an NSF supported project that began in 1999 to develop a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). The project includes dissemination and extensive internal and external evaluation.
