Museum Box Homepage - 0 views

  •
The Museum Box site provides the tools for you to build up an argument or description of an event, person or historical period by placing items in a virtual box. What items, for example, would you put in a box to describe your life; the life of a Victorian Servant or Roman soldier; or to show that slavery was wrong and unnecessary? You can display anything from a text file to a movie. You can also view and comment on the museum boxes submitted by others. The project was inspired by anti-slavery campaigner Thomas Clarkson who carried a museum box with him to display artifacts of the realities of slavery.

Beyond the Book: A New Role for Your Students | Edutopia - 0 views

This article speaks of the importance of teaching our students to be powerful researchers, not simply passive consumers. I like the ideas listed in the "Get Started" section: * Create the researcher role as a student assignment. * Show students different search engines. * Build a search engine for your classroom [such as a Google Custom Search Engine page].

Stage Craft: Taking Cues from Theater Class to Help Make Math and Science Fun | Edutopia - 0 views

Some excellent goals for making learning more engaging and relevant in our classrooms. The writer compares the vitality and passion associated with sports to what is typically found in the classroom. Realities from football that should be in the classroom, too: - players (students) are considered active participants rather than passive recipients. - the unexpected happens all the time, so there's no time to coast or be unfocused. - a player (student) can let the team (class) down. - there's no such thing as "good enough"; we're always asking players (students) to excel. - the adults who participate are genuinely interested. - a public performance is expected.
