"SlideShare, the popular service for sharing presentations, just announced a major update to its platform. Starting today, SlideShare users will be able to upload videos of their presentations, screencasts and other business-related video content. Thanks to SlideShare's LinkedIn app, LinkedIn's users will now also be able to share video on the popular social networking site for professionals."

ecently while viewing the wonderful tweets by people that I follow on Twitter I came across a tweet by Andrew Marcinek (Here is a link to his Blog http://iteach20.blogspot.com/). He was sharing a Wiki that he created for his staff and students. The Boys Latin School Ed-Tech Resource Wiki serves as a home for all the links that he shares with his staff broken down by content level.

I've also noticed that a lot of our students struggle to learn without direct teacher instruction - they don't seem to be as independent in their learning as I've come to expect. I'm not sure if that's because we are living in Japan, where literally every single thing comes with explicit instructions (e.g. the audio warnings everywhere you go, like "You are now on the escalator, hold the handrail and stand on the left," or this interesting story about Crocs) or if they're just used to being directly told what to do. I want to make sure that my students understand that they can learn anytime, anywhere, from anyone who is willing and able to share their knowledge. I want them to have the skills not only to be able to find out the answer, but also to share what they know. I'm glad to see that other teachers are trying the same thing too…

Storytelling continues to gain popularity as an educational activity as it stimulates a deep thinking process, it provides opportunities for reflection and it enhances and enriches the learning experience for our students. Storytelling is a very powerful way of communicating with our peers and portrays to others who we are and what our own stories are. It also provides an opportunity to connect with a group by creating a shared experience. This is vital in any community but more so in an educational setting where we are nurturing and fostering creativity.
