This video presents a positive view of progressive education although it begins with a parent complaining that children are not learning the fundamentals. We also want to provide comic relief for the millions of teachers, students, administrators, parents, and tax payers who have found themselves locked in a system which has never fully reached it's potential

Kevin Honeycutt, I Need My teachers to learn: check this out. The last ten days were a blur. I started in the Chicago suburbs and did a staff development day at a good friends school. I swung by the ICE conference and hung out with friends. Later I stayed with a friend and his family and colored pictures and made music with his kiddos. Next I did online safety presentations for kids and parents int he same location and it was off to Raleigh NC. Starbuck, my dog was with me for the first leg of the journey. Once in Raleigh, I spent three days at the NCTIES conference. I presented and met wonderful teachers but soon it was off to Monroe Louisiana. I spent the day with lots of educators and ate gumbo for lumch. It was goooood gumbo! Finally I traveled home and it was great to see my family again!

Lisa Nielsen: Empowered Parents Are the Solution to Ending This Race to Nowhere - 1 views

  • When you read each students bio, you'll notice they are driven, motivated, and happen to be strong writers, but like most students there clearly has not been much attention placed on helping them identify and pursue their passions, talents, and interests.
  • If we never help students to discover what they love, what they're good at or what they're passionate about, how does all this learning and all these test scores really have intrinsic value or meaning? When the only answer to, "What do I need to know this for?" is "College" or "To pass the test." what are we REALLY preparing students for?

a story about her polka dotted world one day when I was walking my pug, Petula Peabody. As Petula chased a spotted red ladybug, I realized it would be loads of fun for children and their parents to have a peek into a wonderfully whimsical polka dot world. Kids and adults alike LOVE polka dots! As I continued to develop the story, I also realized that perhaps Lilly could help kids deal better with their scary visits to the doctor. And so, as you see in the book, when Little Lilly Polka Dot gets polka dots on her tongue, a very kind doctor removes them in a very cool way!
