"The Best Sites That Students Can Use Independently And Let Teachers Check On Progress is a "The Best…" list that can come in very handy for teachers and for students. It lists free sites where teachers can register their students, and both can keep track of their progress. They can be useful for reinforcing concepts and language learned in the classroom. Most, thought not all, of the sites on that list focus on English."

"Spelling it out for you
GEORGE SKARBEK
July 30, 2009
Even with checks we don't always get it write, er, right. By George Skarbek.
Automatic spell checking in word-processing programs is now accepted as an essential part of accurate writing and most users appreciate it picking up typing errors, duplicated words, incorrect capitalisation and similar errors."

"Science Apps
Science Apps
Apps are the latest way to connect users to information via tablet computers and smartphones. These programs offer users the opportunity to hold science in their hands and put quality resources in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics literally at their fingertips.
Science NetLinks is in the early stages of gathering and reviewing STEM-related apps for both the iPad and the Android. Please check back often as we expect to add new app-related tools on a regular basis."
"Social networking is a topic that I have been posting about for sometime now. I have published a set of series on this issue and will soon be adding more to it. You can check out Educational Social Networking from part one to part 4 to learn more.

"Mobile devices are ubiquitous among students. The majority of them use a cell phone of some sort be it a smart phone or just a plain one. While solid scientific research on the potential use of the these tools in education is still lacking, more and more educational experts are talking about its use in the classroom. This is mainly due to the inevitability of these devices in our students lives. You can see how eager students become when the recess bell rings , the first thing they do when they are out is checking their mobile.

"It is almost December again, which means the beginning of Advent. Advent calendars are a fun way to reveal information and "surprises" for your students to look forward to each day in December leading up to Christmas. Last year I thought I would make an advent calendar of my own using Wix. I created a Web 2.0 advent calendar by choosing 25 of my favorite web 2.0 tools for the classroom. Each day you can check out a new one. (I'll let you in on a secret, you can cheat and look at them all by clicking on the bird to get back to the calendar page…shh don't tell anyone!) "

"This is a supplement to "Appy Hours 4 You" Blog Talk Radio Show: Episode 15 - "Making Mathematics App-tastic: Part 2". In this follow-up episode we featured 15 free mathematics game-like apps that focused on basic math, ordering numbers, proportions, FDP conversions, and equations for both elementary and secondary. For each app we shared a brief description and then ways the app could be used in the classroom (e.g. stations, assessment, remediation). Check out our first segment of "Making Mathematics App-tastic"."
"A raccoon with the word "why" Phylo is a project that began as a reaction to the following nugget of information: Kids know more about Pokemon creatures than they do about real creatures*. We think there's something wrong with that. Apparently, so do many others.
picture of a bird with the word "what" Phylo is: (1) a card game that makes use of the wonderful, complex, and inspiring things that inform the notion of biodiversity; (2) an exercise in crowd sourcing, open access, and open game development; and (3) FREAKIN' AWESOME!
picture of a plant with the word "who" The phylo project is the product of the kind and (frankly) amazing contributions of many many individuals who have given art, science expertise, gaming advice, programming chops, and more. A card usually begins its life by someone submitting art to this Flickr pool, but you can also develop new games, help out with programming, or providing general feedback by leaving comments on the blog or forum.
picture of a lady bug and the word "how" You can Start quickly by printing yourself a starter deck and checking out a set of rules. Alternatively, you can just collect and print the cards by going to the card section and "select"ing the ones you like."
