Math Teaching Resources for K-5 Classrooms - 7 views

  •
"This site provides an extensive collection of free resources, math games, and hands-on math activities aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Our math printables are suitable for use in math centers, small group or whole class settings. Instructions for each activity are presented in large print on a task card in child-friendly language to enable students to work on tasks independently after a brief introduction to the task. All files are in PDF format and can be accessed using Adobe Reader. Also available are Math Journal Tasks (K-5), Math Vocabulary Resources (Gds. 2-5) and Math Projects (Gds. 3-5) for teachers looking for ways to support students' math writing skills while developing key concepts and skills. See our E-Books page for more information on these resources."

How can you answer the perennial math question: "Am I ever going to use this in real life?" PBS's "Get the Math" website is a great way to show students how math is used in areas like music, fashion, and video game design. Thanks to Emily B. for sharing this one!

parenting training in Vadodara by Schoolywood - 0 views

  •
Being a parent has always been challenging but it has become more tough today than the previous generation. Parenting today has become a difficult, complex and often exhausting task. Hazards of "too much TV" compounded by the proliferation of mobile devices and gaming consoles are the major contributors and influences.

BBC - Future - Want to learn quicker? Use your body - 0 views

  • The Kinect sensor, meanwhile, is being used in studies to help children learn to more accurately map numbers onto physical space – a simple skill but one that is fundamental to our understanding of mathematics. Most people know, for instance, to place the number 50 exactly midway along a line marked “0” at one end and “100” at the other. Researchers at Eberhard Karls University in Tuebingen, Germany, found that seven-year-olds can place numbers along such a line more accurately if they physically walk the line on the floor – with their motion captured and analysed by the Kinect sensor – than if they use a mouse to interact with a computer screen representation of the line

You Must Always (May) Show Your Work - Coach G's Teaching Tips - Education Week Teacher - 5 views

  •
Do you ask your students to show their work? Should they? This article has an interesting perspective.
  •
I ask them too because I teach alg, these problems become more complicated as the year moves on and they need to write their steps down because there are multiple steps. The ones that have been doing it in their heads for years suddenly cant seem to do that anymore and find themselves in a tricky situation because they don't know how to show their work.
