Looking for information to hand out to parents about math? These Parent Roadmaps developed by the Council of the Great City Schools are very simple, straightforward documents that inform parents about Common Core math concepts at each grade level.

I attended a workshop about PARCC and middle school math at the NJ Principals and Supervisors Association in March 2014. The presentation was made by people from TMI Education, and these links are from their presentation.

Pearson has put together over 1,500 math video tutorials at Virtual Nerd. The quality is very good, and the topics are aligned with Common Core, so this should be a great resource.

This is an interesting look at how Americans have led the way in developing math instruction but not following through on it (according to the NY Times author).

This is a good explanation of relationships that are NOT proportional and why. The candle problem is a good one--ask students, "How could you turn this into a proportion?" They would want to say that the statement should change to something like "How much candle is burned each hour?"

Being a parent has always been challenging but it has become more tough today than the previous generation. Parenting today has become a difficult, complex and often exhausting task. Hazards of "too much TV" compounded by the proliferation of mobile devices and gaming consoles are the major contributors and influences.
