Free accounts allow for 200 books. Over this, a small subscription yearly or a lifetime membership is available.

Bookcrossing - share books via this famous community - register the book, and leave it to be picked up locally at a park, coffee shop or anywhere you purposely leave it. You can also hold a library of books read onsite for yourself.

Douban is a Chinese book loving community

Tumblr is one of the original microblogging webapps on the web. Many people hold Tumbleblogs of aggregated text, quotes, photos, links, video, audio and chat from all over the web. You can add your own comments to these items, or create your own text (blog entry) A tumbleblog is very easy to use with bookmarklets in your browser to help you add content to your blog quickly.

Book Tribes provides more book lists, groups, sharing and tags.

XMind is opensource mindmapping software, with a Pro version also. There are drilldown, workgroup and multiple sheet functions and the audio notes make this appealing for collobarative mindmaps.
