"Facebook vs. Twitter: battle of the social network stars" is an article written by Curt Tagtmeier, a reference librarian, about libraries using Facebook and Twitter to reach out to people. He started a project in May 2010 creating a Facebook page and a Twitter profile to make use of the popularity of social networking. This article gives reasons about both the sites and to why a library should pick between Facebook or Twitter in the battle of the social network stars. I found this article from the CSU Chico Library Database.

The article, "Flash Mobs: Social Influence in the 21st Century" by Anne Duran, explains the many ways flash mobs are used throughout the world by Social media, such as cell phones and websites in order to come together as one and organize the event. He also gathers participants of the flash mob and asks them specific questions regarding the event and their experiences.

This is an articla about student socializing from different level of ages. Showing that student's favroite tools of tchnologies are and how they all can promote socializing.

In this article, Social Networking Goes to School, by Michelle R. Davis it talks about how many schools are using Social networking sites to communicate with schools from other countries. Social networking has changed the way teachers teach and students learn. As said by Davis in the article, "If you don't take that golden opportunity to teach students about the responsibility of using these things, you lose a teachable moment." If schools block them, they're preventing students from learning the skills they need to know."

This article looks at other articles and gets into some of the social aspects of video games that are being talked about, as well as the effects of the video game industry on everyone. This article also looks at some writers that talk about why more and more people celebrate gaming because of the displays of powerful combination of entertainment, competition, and technology. While on the other hand the other writers talk about the social and moral aspects that they think are important. However, according to Michael Jindra, the author of this article, she thinks that all of them writers that she used agree that video games are a phenomenon that will have social implications. I personally think that we are bettering video games because we are moving more and more to a social way of gaming.

This is a study of undergraduate students who uses social networking sites, and how it influences students' social integration into university life.

In the article, "Why Schools Should Learn To Use Online Services Like Facebook & YouTube Rather Than Banning Them," Mike Masnick argues that incorporating Facebook and other social networking sites, would be beneficial to both students and teachers. He says that by trying to fuse these social media sites with the teacher's curriculum, it will make education and school work more relevant to the students lives.

From the authors' abstract: "The purpose of this study was to examine the practices of two teachers who had chosen to use the social network site (SNS) Ning to create online classrooms as supplements to their physical classrooms in order to bridge the self and school-selected literacies of adolescents. The study further aimed to identify whether the ways in which the teachers were using the SNS constituted a new literacy practice and if so in what ways. It supports and adds to the new literacies theory in four ways: 1. by revisiting the notion of what constitutes literacy, 2. by identifying attributes that do and do not constitute new literacies, 3. by supporting the view that new technologies do not automatically correspond to new literacies, and 4. by showing that new technologies may end up devaluing other modes of learning."

Most people probably feel that Twitter is nothing but a waste of time, and does nothing positive for the individuals using it. After reading this article, I must say Twitter is darn good invention, that has a postive effect and outcome for the individuals who partake in the action.

This article is very useful for anyone who needs information on how teens today have become the majority of tench users in todays's world. Very interesting

I found this article by Mary Chayko to be most interesting in which she discusses how people create social media communities and bonds based on commonly shared pleasures and interests. She focuses on the "sociomental connections" we form with others.

In this article, it talks about how the development of the internet create a popular place for discussion of political and social issues. In recent years, sites like Facebook are illustrations of the outstanding growth social network sites.

Young people are increasingly using social networking sites (SNSs) like MySpace and Facebook to engage with others. The use of SNSs can have both positive and negative effects on the individual; however, few studies identify the types of people who frequent these Internet sites. This study sought to predict young adults' use of SNSs and addictive tendency toward the use of SNSs from their personality characteristics and levels of self-esteem.

I found this article to be very appealing; it discusses how the media provides an important background for the social, emotional, and cognitive development of youth with socilized neworks. He also states how facebook affects college students in today's culture.

The monitoring of social media and the users of social media. There is constant research being done on what people are into and what they search and how much information they can collect off of those things about us.
