The JDT project provides the tool plug-ins that implement a Java IDE supporting the development of any Java application, including Eclipse plug-ins. It adds a Java project nature and Java perspective to the Eclipse Workbench as well as a number of views, editors, wizards, builders, and code merging and refactoring tools. The JDT project allows Eclipse to be a development environment for itself.

The project aims to integrate the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) and the Dojo framework. Indeed the Dojo framework is very rich in term of widgets and utilities (fisheye, slider, drag and drop functionality) and the main interest is to take benefits of the huge work which has been already done by the Dojo community. In other words, it means: the Dojo widgets become GWT widgets, the Dojo utilities become GWT helper.

lambdaj is a library that makes easier to address this issue by allowing to manipulate collections in a pseudo-functional and statically typed way. In our experience to iterate over collection, especially in nested loops, is often error prone and makes the code less readable. The purpose of this library is to alleviate these problems employing some functional programming techniques but without losing the static typing of java. We impose this last constraint to make refactoring easier and safer and allow the compiler to do its job.

As Eclipse plug-in and Rich Client Platform developers, we face unique challenges in how we structure and execute our unit tests. In this article, I suggest an approach to unit testing based on Eclipse fragments that can help us overcome these challenges. If you find yourself frustrated with your current plug-in testing options, read on! But before going into detail on a fragment based solution, let's examine the current approaches and the pros and cons associated with each. The first approach is the one most of us start with as we learn the ropes of plug-in development: placing all code in a single plug-in.

Janino is a super-small, super-fast Java™ compiler. Not only can it compile a set of source files to a set of class files like the JAVAC tool, but also can it compile a Java™ expression, block, class body or source file in memory, load the bytecode and execute it directly in the same JVM. Janino is not intended to be a development tool, but an embedded compiler for run-time compilation purposes, e.g. expression evaluators or "server pages" engines like JSP. JANINO is integrated with Apache Commons JCI ("Java Compiler Interface") and JBoss Rules / Drools. JANINO can also be used for static code analysis or code manipulation. JANINO can be configured to use the javax.tools.JavaCompiler API (available since JDK 1.6), which removes the Java 5-related limitations.

These new microsoft solutions help organizations optimize employee productivity and decision-making, while simplifying the delivery of applications for IT.

"Executing external processes from Java is a well-known problem area. It is inheriently platform dependent and requires the developer to know and test for platform specific behaviors, for example using cmd.exe on Windows or limited buffer sizes causing deadlocks. The JRE support for this is very limited, albeit better with the new Java SE 1.5 ProcessBuilder class. Reliably executing external processes can also require knowledge of the environment variables before or after the command is executed. In J2SE 1.1-1.4 there is not support for this, since the method, System.getenv(), for retriving environment variables is deprecated. There are currently several different libraries that for their own purposes have implemented frameworks around Runtime.exec() to handle the various issues outlined above. The proposed project should aim at coordinating and learning from these initatives to create and maintain a simple, reusable and well-tested package. Since some of the more problematic platforms are not readily available, it is my hope that the broad Apache community can be a great help."

SmartSprites will let you easily introduce and maintain CSS sprites in your designs.
