Commons Exec - Apache Commons Exec - 0 views

  •
"Executing external processes from Java is a well-known problem area. It is inheriently platform dependent and requires the developer to know and test for platform specific behaviors, for example using cmd.exe on Windows or limited buffer sizes causing deadlocks. The JRE support for this is very limited, albeit better with the new Java SE 1.5 ProcessBuilder class. Reliably executing external processes can also require knowledge of the environment variables before or after the command is executed. In J2SE 1.1-1.4 there is not support for this, since the method, System.getenv(), for retriving environment variables is deprecated. There are currently several different libraries that for their own purposes have implemented frameworks around Runtime.exec() to handle the various issues outlined above. The proposed project should aim at coordinating and learning from these initatives to create and maintain a simple, reusable and well-tested package. Since some of the more problematic platforms are not readily available, it is my hope that the broad Apache community can be a great help."

Arquillian - JBoss Community - 0 views

  •
Arquillian enables you to test your business logic in a remote or embedded container. Alternatively, it can deploy an archive to the container so the test can interact as a remote client. The mission of the Arquillian project is to provide a simple test harness that abstracts away all container lifecycle and deployment from the test logic so developers can easily produce a broad range of integration tests for their enterprise Java applications. Arquillian is part of the JBoss Testing initiative, an umbrella project focused on providing a comprehensive testing tool set for application developers. Arquillian can either execute a test case inside the container, in which case the test class is deployed by Arquillian along with the code under test, or hold back the test class so it can act as a remote client to the deployed code. All the developer has to do is write the test logic. In short... Arquillian makes integration testing a breeze!

Shrinkwrap - JBoss Community - 0 views

Shrinkwrap provides a simple mechanism to assemble archives like JARs, WARs, and EARs with a friendly, fluent API. JavaArchive archive = ShrinkWrap.create(JavaArchive.class,"archive.jar")    .addClasses(MyClass.class,MyOtherClass.class)    .addResource("mystuff.properties"); From there you may deploy directly into any supported integration container like JBoss EmbeddedAS, GlassFish v3 Embedded, Jetty, or OpenEJB.  Or perhaps you'd like to export the archive to a file or exploded directory structure.  Maybe you'd prefer to serialize it over the network to a remote host.  The possibilities are limitless. To boot, ShrinkWrap is the supported deployment mechanism of the Arquillian project, and together we render the testing of true enterprise components amiable as a puppy.  Where Java EE brought a POJO programming model to application development, we've brought it to testing.  You handle your business logic; we'll do the rest. To foster community participation, the majority of documentation and examples are available through our Wiki. Releases are available either via our Downloads section, or through the JBoss Maven Repository, which we recommend is configured in ${userHomeDir}/.m2/settings.xml:

jaxen: universal Java XPath engine - jaxen - 0 views

  •
"Jaxen is an open source XPath library written in Java. It is adaptable to many different object models, including DOM, XOM, dom4j, and JDOM. Is it also possible to write adapters that treat non-XML trees such as compiled Java byte code or Java beans as XML, thus enabling you to query these trees with XPath too. "

Apache Chemistry - OpenCMIS Overview - 0 views

  •
"OpenCMIS is a collection of Java libraries, frameworks and tools around the CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) specification. The goal of OpenCMIS is to make CMIS simple for Java client and server developers. It hides the binding details and provides APIs and SPIs on different abstraction levels. It also includes test tools for content repository developers and client application developers."

Ajax Push - Overview - ICEfaces - ICEfaces.org Community Wiki - 0 views

  •
Ajax Push allows the application to incrementally update any part of the page at any time, for any group of clients. This is a small change in terms of the technical capabilities of Ajax applications, but it is a revolutionary change in terms of what applications can actually provide to users. Ajax Push is the key to building collaborative multi-user applications for the web. Under the Hood The intricacies of the Ajax Push implementation are completely transparent to the ICEfaces developer, as you work with a straightforward set of APIs. It is, however, useful to understand the basic mechanics. Ajax Push in ICEfaces 2.0 leverages an asynchronous notification mechanism call ICEpush. Simply put, ICEpush uses long polling to provide asynchronous notification over standard HTTP, using only standard browser capabilities. The sequence of events involved in Ajax Push is illustrated below.

SQL Workbench/J -  Home - 0 views

  •
SQL Workbench/J is a free, DBMS-independent, cross-platform SQL query tool. It is written in Java and thus it should run on any operating system that provides a Java Runtime Environment. It's main focus is on running SQL scripts (either interactively or as a batch) and export/import features. Graphical query building or more advanced DBA tasks are not the focus and are not planned Current stable version: Build 110 (2011-02-13) Current development build: 110.5 ( 2011-04-25)

Discussion on eclipse-repository packaging type clean-up - Tycho - Confluence - 0 views

  •
The packaging type eclipse-repository was originally introduced for building products that can be updated with p2 (cf. TYCHO-188). This requires the following build results: a p2 repository which contains the product IU, and a zip file with the installed product. (Although this is technically no longer needed since the Update Manager was replaced by p2, zip files are still the primary way to distribute Eclipse/RCP installations.) For ease of implementation, this was done in the same packaging type eclipse-repository. In the meantime, eclipse-repository has gained in capabilities (in particular through TYCHO-491), making it difficult for users to choose the right packaging types. This page lays out the mid-term plan of how we want to build products, update site categories, and p2 repositories in Tycho. It also contains a few details how the transition todays (0.11.0) packaging types (eclipse-repository, eclipse-application, eclipse-update-site) to the new types eclipse-repository and eclipse-product.

twitter/finagle @ GitHub - 0 views

"Finagle is a library for building asynchronous RPC servers and clients in Java, Scala, or any JVM language. Overview Built atop Netty, Finagle provides a rich set of tools that are protocol independent. Finagle is flexible enough to support a variety of RPC styles, including request-response, streaming, and pipelining (e.g., HTTP pipelining and Redis pipelining). It also makes it easy to work with stateful RPC styles (e.g., those requiring authentication and those that support transactions)."

Design Patterns: Front Controller - 0 views

  •
Many interactive Web applications are composed of brittle collections of interdependent Web pages. Such applications can be hard to maintain and extend. The Front Controller pattern defines a single component that is responsible for processing application requests. A front controller centralizes functions such as view selection, security, and templating, and applies them consistently across all pages or views. Consequently, when the behavior of these functions need to change, only a small part of the application needs to be changed: the controller and its helper classes.
