I see this story as being newsworthy because for a bit it seemed as space exploration for the United States had come to a halt after the last shuttle, Atlantis, took off in early July 2011.

As I see it, this article has a certain importance and impact to the U.S. Although it will take some time for this new rocket to be released, it still gives us a horizon to look towards in the topic of space exploration.

I thought this news was important because it's world news and NASA affects many people. It has Human/Interest Emotion, Timeliness, and Conflict. The reason being why it is Human/Interest Emotion is because it affects a certain group of people (people who are interested in science and space). It is Timeless because it happened recently. It is a Conflict because they are delaying something because something went wrong.

The announcement on Tuesday by the Russian space agency that it will delay the launching of the next crew to the International Space Station is a concern for NASA, which is relying solely on the Russians for astronaut transportation.

'Goosebumps' as daredevil jumps from edge of space - CNN.com - 0 views

  •
"In a moment that seems likely to live forever in the annals of derring-do, Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner on Sunday rode a balloon to the edge of space, saluted and stepped off a platform 24 miles high with as much ease as any of us mere mortals might step off a curb. The former soldier hurtled through the sky at up to more than 830 mph, breaking the sound barrier in a tumbling, gut-churning four-minute free fall before popping his parachute and making a running landing in the New Mexico desert."

This story is interesting to me because it is about science and our space program which interests me.  The story is also important because it is dealing with the large impact of unveiling an entirely new rocket design, and not just a new rocket.
    • Ali M

This story has a special interest because it is about science, more specifically, rocket science.  It also has an impact and importance to the people of the United States because it is about the United States' space program.

RARITAN TWP. - The Township Committee unanimously voted to approve the Raritan Junction redevelopment plan, which envisions turning the former Yale property into a mixed-use development that will include residences, retail spaces, offices and recreation areas. The intent of the mixed-use design is to create a neighborhood town center on what is an existing brownfield with an abandoned and obsolete industrial facility, township Planner Jamie Sunyak said. The plans will impact student parking at Hunterdon Central High School. Future plans call for a smaller lot with more than 100 spots for students.

Cellphone Service on Subway Platforms, but No More Excuses - NYTimes.com - 2 views

Perhaps no space in New York City is governed by as complex a set of social rules as the cramped subway car, that lurching human Petri dish that has spawned a thousand sociology papers. Its nuanced etiquette is known to generations of New Yorkers: head down, body clenched, contact of eyes or limbs a no-no.

A journalistic conundrum: When does Twitter count as a reliable source? - CSMonitor.com - 0 views

"it's incontrovertible that the service allowed Americans a peek into a world that would otherwise have been sealed up pretty tightly." It shows a responsibility to conscience.

"they were waiting for us - they all have guns and riot uniforms - it was like a mouse trap - ppl being shot like animals #Iranelection 9:53 AM Jun 24th from web" It keeps it short and relevant on twitter rather than reading through everything in the news paper just to get a little bit of information.
  •
We've devoted a lot of space here in recent weeks to Twitter, and for good reason: the June 12 elections in Iran were a major turning point for the social network. Whatever you think of Twitter - a lark, a waste of time, a brain-busting sociological malady - it's incontrovertible that the service allowed Americans a peek into a world that would otherwise have been sealed up pretty tightly.

I think this is interesting news because we are always questioning the presence of other planets, so the discovering 50 other planets outside of our solar system, including 16 that could be like earth but bigger? Thats huge news. And I wanna hear about the details.
    • Chloe M

I found this interesting because I love learning about space and the possibility that we found a planet that may support life is very exciting. This has timeliness, because it happened yesterday. This also has importance/impact, because it could lead to the discovery of alien life forms. This also is of unusual nature because this event does not happen every day.
