"Faux Columns" by Dan Cederholm of SimpleBits discusses "[a] simple way to make CSS columns appear equal in length, regardless of the content that they contain." This technique requires a good amount of skill in positioning elements on a page and understanding the nuances of the background image. I'd like to try it, but don't anticipate using it any time in the near future, but because we're using Wordpress I'm not sure I'll be needing to any time soon.

This site is one that I would have found confusing before this class. It seems complicated with all of the different drawn images, but its block elements are very basic and straightforward.

A complex theme that I'm hoping to manipulate and use for my site. It has three columns, and looks complex but outlining the box level elements shows it's fairly simple.

This article was written/posted a year ago, but I found it interesting -- detailing some "trends" in web pages. Some of the ideas (like hand-drawn designs) are probably way beyond our reach. I hope at least one of these sparks something, lets you think outside the box for your next installation! :)
