It is the end of our school year! The interested math people in my school are meeting next week. I'm teaching a SMART board 101 type class for the teachers who will be using a SMART board for the very first time. I've used one for about 3.5 years to teach geometry, and I volunteered to guide them. If you were in the class, what would YOU want to learn?
As technology integrator, I've had to think and plan out how to provide PD for staff on how to use their SMART Boards. Here are some things that they wanted to know:
-How to capture notes written from one class session to compare with another. -How to convert content in Notebook so that it can posted on a website for students to access at home, such as class notes. -How to attach other resources (documents, web sites, etc.) to Notebook so that everything is a "tap" of the finger away. -How to add video to Notebook from YouTube or TeacherTube (Hint: use http://keepvid.com/) -Most of all, where to find lesson plan/activity templates online - why re-invent the wheel.
If I was REALLY a rookie and didn't know ANYTHING about a SmartBoard, I'd want to know how it works and how to use it.. ie. where the tools are, which buttons to push etc. If I was teaching about the SmartBoard, I'd start with that, then move to some of my favourite internet links, then to the actual "how to's" of how to do things. I'd build in some "play time" too. In my experience, the most valuable time has been when other teachers get to experiment on their own.
Theorems, I like theorems 1-40, if I am not wrong. While I was in school i was not particularly impressed by theorems, still I felt very challenging.
