Grammar Practice - 0 views

  •
Grammar Practice Park Overview: The purpose of this site is to help whoever visits the site to practice and perfect their grammar skills. The intended audience seems to be student's grades 3-8. A teacher could direct his or her students to this site during a lesson to help practice and bring in some excitement to the classroom. The site sponsor provides a link to their homepage which has adequate information regarding language arts as well. The site gave me a good impression, contained good grammar games and information. Content: First look at the site it looks like options and a paragraph the site states in the paragraph that is meant for grammar practice making it unclear what it is all about. Once you figure out what the site is the links to grammar practice seem clear and interesting. The information providers are a publishing house making the info legitimate. There wasn't a copyright or revision date which brings down the site a little bit. Overall the quality of information is put together well; it provides students with games to play that ultimately improve their grammar skills. When going through the links you can go to the publishing company's page which contains even more abundant information for teachers more so than students. Design: The homepage of this site is inviting to students with the different grammar games available by one click. There isn't much to the site other than games to improve grammar skills making it only appropriate on occasion. Overall the design isn't too thoughtful simply because it doesn't include any lessons or anything jus practice games. One can always learn through practice though, so based off my knowledge it may not be necessary.

Learning English - Exercises, Grammar, Vocabulary, Exams - 0 views

Posted by Tanisha Daugaard on September 21, 2009 This site is designed for aiding student and basically anyone with learning the English language. It includes grammar games, practice exams, and other useful rules on English. Content: The organizational level of this site isn't as high as others that I've seen, but it is still easy to navigate. It has numerous links that are organized by subject areas. The purpose of this site is easy to determine and it can be used for many age levels. The sponsor of the site is easy to determine and a website is given for them. As for the designer of the site, I was unable to determine who it was. I was able to find a couple spelling and grammar errors, but other than that it seemed rather creditable. Overall, the links work and bring the user to other educational and important sites. This site can be a great resource for getting help with English, grammar, and writing. Design: I think the design of the site could be improved. There are numerous ads that don't relate to the subject area at all. There are more ads than actual information on most of the site. The links given are useful, so I was able to look past the ads. I found it easy to navigate and the links useful. There is a substantial amount of information given and I found it to be worth going to the site. It has different sections for parents, teachers, and students. I was not able to find any information regarding how often it is updated or modified. Overall, it was easy to navigate and had good information, but there are a few improvements that can be made. Attribution: As far as using and quoting information, the site doesn't include authors for each link. It doesn't have a lot of information that would be quoted; the main use is to look skills up and practice English online. It doesn't have anything about the site creators or who to contact if questions come up.

Grammar Rules - 0 views

Jared Mohr-Leiva October 13, 2014 Grammar is an area of Language Arts that is almost unanimously hated. We are taught grammar in primary school, and the rules become greater in number and difficulty as we progress. Thankfully, websites such as "www.grammarbook.com" exist only to help. From basics (nouns and verbs, where to use a comma) to more complex areas (who vs. whom, prepositions, semicolons), this website has rules galore. Additionally, all the information is taken directly from Jane Straus's "The Blue Book of Grammar and Pronunciation," a published and legitimate work. On the website's home page is a list of twenty-five subjects, each linking to a page which details what each of the words mean, what they are, how to find them, et cetera. Sections are clearly labeled, examples are given, and rules are clearly outlined. Overall, the website is very user-friendly; It is very easy to find what is needed, and quickly. Aesthetically, I have seen much worse. Grammarbook.com is very blue, to say the least. However, many of the text boxes are a light orange color, blue's compliment, which is rather easy on the eyes. Labels are large and bold, making everything easy to locate. All in all, a very helpful and convenient resource.

Overview: This website is intended to pass information about the proper use of grammar in writing. The website does a great job of conveying those grammar rules. It also has online tests to check for comprehension of what the viewer just learned. The site is based off of a book from a very credible author, but because of that there are no links to other sites with similar information. Overall, the website is very plain but passes along the information it intends to successfully but may lose visitors to the site because the design does not draw people in. Content: This website is full of information, and has tips for every grammar rule imaginable. The rules for grammar are incredibly accurate and helpful for writing for high school students. A criticism of the content would be that there is a chance for information overload with all of rules that are listed Along with the rules the website also has online quizzes to test the rules that were just reviewed on the site. That immediate chance to test comprehension is very helpful for students. The information is highly credible and the website does a great job of listing the credentials of the author. However, because the site is based off of one book there are no links on the site for other places to find similar helpful information. Design: The design of this website is extremely plain. Their audience is clearly adults or upper level high school students. The site is easy to navigate. It utilizes bullet points for the different grammar rule the viewer wants to learn about and links to the information without a problem. Then, from there, the viewer can link directly to a quiz pertaining to the rule they just learned. In general, the design of the website is easy to use but unappealing to the eye.

Kayla Rider January 23, 2010 Overview This website, I believe, will be very useful for pre-service teachers as well as in-service teachers. It is an educational website for ESL students. It has many links within it that show you how to teach or how to use grammar, search for jobs, writing skills, etc. I have yet to use it for anything rather than this evaluation, but I could definitely see myself using it in the future for my students and myself. Content As said before, the content is for ESL teachers and students. It has links for grammar….etc. It has a table of contents of to the side to navigate through its perimeters. If you are stuck on MLA guidelines, it has a link to help you. It can be used for any writing mis-hap or question that you might have. It looks to be credible due to its vast amount of copyright restraints. I believe that overall this educational website can be very useful. Design The overall color scheme is appealing to the eye but does not distract you from its content. It is very easy to navigate through due to its overall set up. The tabs can be easily found, as well as the links in which you might want to navigate to. It has descriptors for its links that allow you to read a summary of what you are getting into. Overall, very effective design.

Rebekah Asay January 23, 2011 Overview: This website is to help students or adults better their English. There are a number of games including hangman, crosswords, matching games, typing tests, and puzzles to help improve grammar, typing skills, and vocabulary. Content: This website has fun games that are fun and educational. There are many other links for videos, teachers, writing, vocabulary, and pronunciation. There is a lot of information and it is a good resource for someone learning English. Design: The design is easy enough to navigate but isn't very attractive to the eye and is slightly unorganized. There is a lot going on on the webpage and it is overwhelming.

Lindsey Carter 9-4-2011 Overview: DrGrammar.org is intended for individuals with English questions ranging from grammar and word origins to common errors in English. The site is provided by the University of Northern Iowa and is edited by the UNI Department of Languages and Literature. Overall, I was very impressed by the amount of information the site provided, although it was slightly less organized than I would have hoped. Content: At first look, the basic content of the site and intended audience is very clear. The author of the site is also identified, and a link is available for the user to find out more information about the university. Users may also contact the UNI Department of Languages and Literature via email from the site. A date of the last revision isn't clear, but the copyright date is. All links work perfectly, loading quickly and effectively. The purpose of the site is informational, and it is quite effective and complete. The information on grammar and common mistakes is given along with easy-to-understand examples. The website is free of bias, and additional resources are available via link to Purdue University. Design: The website's homepage is not the most attractive. The title and sponsor of the site are both clear, and an index does exist to guide the user. Directions are in place to help the user navigate the site and find the information they seek, but the titles of the index are not clearly categorized. Again, the date of last revision also isn't clearly identified, but the overall information is helpful to those with English inquiries.

Megan Switzer September 11, 2011 Overview: The website Activities for ESL students is one that focuses mainly on the speaking aspect of English. In this sense students are able to quiz themselves on their knowledge of English vocabulary, grammar as well as complete activities such as cross word puzzles that works on these concepts as well. The targeted audience for this website is clearly ESL students although there is a little bit on there that is meant for teachers as well. External links are provided in which students may find other beneficial information, as well as videos/ podcasts that aide in their English learning as well. Overall this website focuses on the mastering of the English language and provides students with the tools to work on their grammar and vocabulary in a multitude of ways. Content: The content of this website is simple and easy to understand. It is well organized and the main ideas remain constant throughout. The links that it provides for resources are relevant and easily accessible. Overall there is one main focus and the website does a great job of remaining constant in it while still providing a variety of ways in which to learn the material. The information providers were not clear for this website, but the information was consistent and similar throughout as well as up to date. I was quite impressed with the material it provides for the students as well as videos in which they feel the children may be able to most relate. Design: The overall design of this website is straight to the point and easy to use. All links and graphics worked and seemed to be up to date. The information was relevant and worthwhile visiting. The audience it was intended for can effectively as well as efficiently use it based on the way in which it is organized. Information such as the currency and author were more confusing to navigate, but the links for helpful resources are truly beneficial. Overall the design of this website is one that is sim

Overview: This website's purpose is to provide practical life vocabulary skill lessons for English as Second Language learners. Teachers create and submit quizzes using every day English Language and students complete the quizzes using their English knowledge skills. When an answer is wrong the site tells you and shows the student what is right and why. There were also instructional videos and other games. Content: This website had an abundance of tests that English as Second Language learners could take to better their classroom English skills. There were also 49 different language options to take a quiz in both the learner's first language and English. The main quizzes were divided into grammar, vocab, and crossword categories and grade level and difficulty level could easily be chosen at the top. There was also a for teachers section that explains how best to use the site. The downfalls to the site were that revision dates and author information were not easily found. Design: This website was easy to use, organized, and had a clean appealing look. I feel that the amount of English on the front page of the site may actually be overwhelming for ESL learners and the teacher would probably have to get the student set up where they need to be in order for the use of the site to work to its potential. The site sponsor and contact information were not easily found and neither were the revision dates. Overall the site's content made it worth coming back to for ESL learners help.

Content: This website is no frills and does not have external advertising. There are not games or a lot of graphics. But, it does serve a purpose to help students practice grammar. Many of the activities come in many different languages and can be switched between English and the other language. The content is free of bias, and the activities are created by teacher volunteers. There are also links to other resources like videos and blogs to help ESL students. Design: It is a very basic design, which makes it easy to navigate and has no distracting advertisements. The graphics that are used in certain activities are useful and serve their purpose, but no additional graphics are used. As far as I can tell all the links are current and work properly. There is a good amount of content and it is split into different areas of expertise, something for beginners all the way through more difficult concepts. Purpose:The quizzes and puzzles are useful for practicing English concepts and also can be used to quiz yourself in foreign languages. For example, someone in a Spanish class could quiz themselves on verbs or some other Spanish vocabulary. Audience: I believe that student from grades 2 on up could make use of this website. Users could be learning English or learning a foreign language. Resources: There are links to podcasts and more interesting things for ESL students. Impression: Overall I like the fact that there is no advertising anywhere on the website, and it is nice that they give you the option to contribute to the activities. Since the quizzes can be made by various people, teachers should choose the appropriate activities for their students.

The content of this site is has Spanish, grammar, math and science. You are able to choose which section that you would like to work on and learn by playing games. The games are based for elementary students but the Spanish versions could help high school students learn as well as have fun playing games. The design is very user friendly. They have toolbars on the top and left had side of the page so that you can easily navigate to where you want to go. There are also pictures that go with the game and a description of what the game entails underneath. There are also bright colors to make the website very aesthetically pleasing. I think that this is a good site because it could easily be utilized by a variety of teacher of different age groups not just elementary as it is intended. If I wanted high school students to use this site they could work on cleaning up their Spanish grammar by picking that certain picture. If one game wasn't working out for one student they could always pick from the others that are available.

Michael Gonzales September 13, 2011 Overview: This website is perfect for any educators who are considering teaching Spanish as a foreign language in their classroom. This site focuses on information regarding Spanish vocabulary and grammar. It's filled with activities that you can easily incorporate into your classroom that will stimulate students to have fun and learn. It also provides additional information of projects that you can use in your classroom. Content: This site is filled with files that you can print off and give to students within your classroom to help them comprehend more Spanish words and grammar. Many of the worksheets allow you to color in the words and also provide excellent visual aids to help comprehend more information. The web page is very easy to navigate; this particular page revolves around Spanish themes. There are also several links to games and items that you can print off to test your students in the classroom. This site also offers you to explore more fully and see what else the company has to offer such as templates for holiday decorations and as well over 100 themes that apply to kindergarten through 3rd grade. Design: The design of the website is very simple and straight forward; the links and texts boxes do not look complex and are very easy to access. The webpage itself is a little boring, only supplying the viewers with pictures of images of what it has to offer. I have taken a few HTML coding classes and I can see that this is something that I can easily duplicate. The site is not complex but the information that is provided is perfect for teachers and students alike.

Overview: This site is informative. It covers a lot of subjects mostly dealing with the subject of English and including grammar and writing. The author is clearly identified and, after searching online about the author, I've determined that the author is exclusive to this site. The site is sort of in a blog format, but organized well enough to maneuver freely without hesitation. The sponsor is clearly displayed on the site and thought the contact information is not readily available, there is access to a contact by email. Content: The content is highly informational and accurate. The author updates the site every day, with new posts and updates for his existing revisions and writings. The material is appropriate for high school students and college level students as well. There are few to no external links displayed, for the reason of exclusivity. The site is well organized which makes it easy to find something specific you are looking for. The information is consistent with similar information in other sources and the grammar and spelling are correct. Design: the page downloads efficiently. Although the author has not made the site flashy or outright colorful, he makes up for it in content. Directions to the site are easy and clear to understand. The categories are visible on the home page and can be easily maneuvered. There are few graphics displayed on the website, but then this site is not geared towards elementary schools. The design is basic and useful. The same basic format is consistent through the full site which makes the information easier to find.

Cara Storey 9/2/10 Overview: Agenda Web is a site that offers free resources to enhance the learning of English. The resources range from sites for teachers, to videos, to sites for practicing grammar. The audience of this site is unclear as the content is jumbled and disorganized. This site isn't one I would use. It's poorly put together, distracting, and overall, hard to navigate. The contents are subpar, and are not exercises I would use in a classroom.

This web site is a place to find a bunch of different tools for learning. The audience is for both teachers and students I would say, but since it is just tools I feel like teachers would find it more useful. Upon first look it is bright and appealing and it is very easy to navigate and links to the different tools are easily accessible. It is easy to tell what the web site's purpose is and it has received an award in 2011. The author's information is available and so is the information on how often it is updated and by whom. All of the links work properly, it is easily navigable, well organized, and easy to understand. It is very informational and there aren't any spelling or grammar errors that I have noticed. All parts of the homepage downloaded and it is a very bright design. The color scheme isn't ideal, but it is clear to see where you are and what the site is. The content of the site is easy to locate and navigate and all of the links are functioning. The provider of the site is noted along with their information as well as copyright date. The graphics are helpful and used appropriately and the information is organized and explained efficiently making it a good site to use for teaching tools. There is a way to contact the site listed.

Cody The purpose of this website is to teach Spanish from a beginning level up to an advanced level. Different stuff that you need to learn and know about Spanish is available on this site such as: pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, verbs, and daily words. It's intended audience for every student that takes a Spanish class from either beginning to advanced students. My overall impression is that it is a very informative internet site for kids to learn and advance their learning of Spanish. From what I have seen, it is a very friendly internet site to help kids learn more Spanish. Most of it is in English for you to understand what is going on. The advertisements on the right side of the internet site aren't very big or distracting. The content is very good, and for me, it outlines and encourages students to learn more about the language of Spanish. The purpose of this site is clear because it is entertaining and informative. It makes you laugh and smile and just enjoy everything that has to do with a Spanish speaking country. It teaches you what you need to be taught about Spanish. It doesn't cover everything, obviously, but it does outline the basic things you need to know about Spanish. The content of this internet site is also well-organized. It's a very easy way of learning another language. The design of this internet site is very appealing because of the colors and designs it has in the site. It's also easy to navigate in this site because you can move around and just explore everything that this internet site entails. Also I like the graphics of everything on this site. To me, it's a very easy and appealing way of introducing a student to the language of Spanish.

Dillon Karajanis 10/21/13 Review of ChooseMyPlate.gov Overview: The educational site I chose was ChooseMyPlate.gov and from what I observed I was able to determine right away that the website had to do with health and nutrition. The purpose of this site is to inform the users about the United States Department of Agriculture's regulations regarding a balanced diet, healthy recopies and nutritional activities. After just a couple clicks I learned that this site can be for educators, parents and children as well. ChooseMyPlate.gov provides interactive games, songs, videos and activity sheets that the users can engage in. My overall impression of the site is positive; there are just a few concerns of mine but in general I like the site and would use it in my classroom. Content: I decided to rate this site worth bookmarking because it does have very useful information that can be used in my class in the future. The sponsor and author are clearly displayed in the site and in this case they are the same source, the USDA. Contact information is also displayed inside the website for users to ask questions or verify topics. The content looked very well organized and complete with no spelling or grammar errors. The content of the site was complete and finished. Design: First of all the design of this website was very well put together. The homepage pulled up very quickly and was extremely visually appealing; with a slide show, bright colors and bold, easy to read text right on the first page it really draws the user in. One thing I did notice was that the copyright date and the latest revision date were not displayed and were not that easy to find. This raised a concern for me. Other than this I thought the information was well organized with a directory if needed as well. The additional links in the site were active, did not lead to dead ends and were all relevant to the subject. I thought over all it was a well designed website.

Michelle Hill February 24, 2012 Overview: The purpose of this website is to serve as a resource for instruction for 1st grade internet activities. Therefore, the intended audience is teachers 1st graders and 1st grade teachers. Available on this website are English activities online involving skills such as story listening, letter recognition, literacy activities sight words, and sentence structure and grammar. Also included are Math activities such as number recognition, patterns/shapes, counting, adding/subtracting and much more! There is also unit themes available for teachers of all kinds. Content: The content of the website was rated as very useful for my information needs based on the fact that the total number of "yes" answers outnumbered the "no" answers. Some strengths of this website include the first look, how it was easy to determine the basic content of the site, the information quality, and the further information. The content of the site was well organized and easy to understand. Some weaknesses of this website are that information of the authors is not available, therefore I do not know if the authors are qualified to present information on the topic. Other weaknesses include that the content was not updated frequently, the last time being August 2007 and the fact that one link to another site was not working properly. Overall, there was an abundance of good content that will prove to be useful in 1st grade classrooms. Design: The design of the website was rated as very well designed and easy to use based on the fact that the total number of "yes" answers outnumbered the "no" answers. First, the homepage downloaded efficiently and the website was speedy, which was a good start to the design. Some strengths of the website include that it was well organized, the copyright date was easy to determine, the site is easy to move around, and the content was presented clearly. Some weaknesses include that there were no directions
