Mary Magnuson, Geology The website http://www.eduref.org/cgi-bin/lessons.cgi/Science/Geology is kind of boring. It has nothing really to keep you interested. It is good because it very clearly tells you who wrote the content, who is sponsoring it, and when it was created. Most of the content was created from between 1994 to 2003, so it is not the most updated. You might have to see if the content is still valid, or if they have come up with a new theory to explain processes. However, there are a lot of lesson plans to choose from, and it would be useful because it tells you everything you need, and the appropriate grade levels. So, while it is not the best website I have found today, it is still useful to a new teacher.

Geography & Geology For Kids - By KidsGeo.com - 1 views

Samantha Snethen- Feb. 5, 2012 Overview: This particular site offers lessons for elementary school students on geography and geology. The site offers no links to other related websites and overall had a poor general design and layout. The lessons were very short and did not differentiate the material for different grade levels. The site seems like a good idea but does not offer enough for users. Content: The site did not list any authors or sponsors or any contact information for users to ask questions. The site also did not give a last revision date so it is impossible to tell how up-to-date all the information is. The information was organized into chapters on the different subjects of geography or geology; these chapters were easy to navigate but contained very little information in each. The site is also missing links to related websites. Design: The site lacks appeal visually and all of the graphics provided for each chapter do not make any significant contribution. It also does not provide directions for navigating or using the site. However, the information was organized and is easy to navigate. The worst part of the design are the large, distracting advertisements for other websites that are placed inconveniently in the middle of the page for each section of each chapter.

Mary Magnuson, Teaching science The website http://www.mii.org/lessons.php has good content. All of the links are current and take you to where you need to go. This would be a great source for teacher if they needed to find a lesson plan for teaching geology. It has a list of lesson plans and it also has activity ideas. It walks you through all of the processes you will have to be accustomed to, and how you can incorporate them into your classroom. The site is not the most beautiful site, but it is easy to navigate. The site also downloads fast. It has pictures that you could use for your classroom, and others that help the teacher understand the specific activity.

Michael Gonzales September 14, 2011 Overview: The kid friendly website covers a wide range of topics from earthquakes, geology, rocks and minerals, and even fossil fuels. The information provided is supplied by government agencies that supply information that benefit many young scholars about information regarding science. Content: This website's homepage consists of a variety of links that offer a child to go and explore information regarding Earth Science. This site allows children to explore ideas of how things work like how earthquakes form as well information about NASA. This is a Government owned site that has material suitable for children as well as adults. The child base website is broken into two main groupings which has material that is suitable for each age group. The site is straight forward with its information and does not offer many things to sidetrack your learning. Design: The design of the website takes on a professional appeal, the layout and colors are eye catching and are simple and welcoming. The links that are provided allow the users to navigate through and find information with ease. The website provides information that is relevant to its topic and does not confuse or throw off the user. I can see this being beneficial in my classroom when I ask my students to seek a professional website that offers great information regarding science.

Rebekah Asay January 23, 2011 Overview: This website offers a 3D close-up-look of earth and the features on it. Content: This website is fun and interactive. It allows you to scour the globe and look at the features on it. It would be useful for a geology class in learning about geological features. Design: The design is easy to use and is fun. It is virtual and interactive.

Science Channel: Space, Technology, Earth Science, Geology - 0 views

Website: http://science.discovery.com/ Content The science channel website has some good information in it. The audience of this website is obvious in the title and the material. It is for those people looking for science related material for basically any age. There are games for the kids and articles for the older crowd. There are a few N's on my evaluation, but there are no perfect websites. They keep the website current. Design The homepage is very appealing. There is very good contrast and images. The text is easy to read. The website cleary states what its intent is, is easily accessible and navigatable. The videos load and are connected to the websites material. I was able to open the website in safari, firefox and Internet explorer. There is a lot of material from articles to videos to games and even a tv manual to what is on the science channel. The website is logical and orderly. The website is current and there is no out dated material that I could find. There are links to other websites that are related to the science channel such as animal planet and military channel. Overview I found that the Science channel website was very resourceful. It is a science website so there is some bias because there are theories and not all material has been proven. I found that I was current and easy to use. The audience is very obvious and there are things to do for fun and learn at the same time. I really enjoyed looking at this website for its purpose and not just scanning over it not noticing how effect it really is. Joey Skalsky Itech 2360 Sec 4

Mary Magnuson, The Website http://www.amnh.org/education/resources/rfl.php?set=b&topic_id=4&subtopic_id=60&intro=false is great. It is organized really well. The downloads are really fast, and all of the ones I tried worked. It is geared towards both the student and the teacher. They are resources that can be used in the classroom, or you can assign students to go there, and there are specific directions with pictures that the students could follow. It is also organized based on grade levels. The content is also good, and from the museum of natural history, so it is reliable. It helps organize deep concepts into easy to understand models.
