QR Code Art Gallery - Superheros! | Pixels and Paint Brushes - 13 views

  •
"This is the second year that our 4th graders have created superhero posters with QR code audio stories attached. This project is a perfect blend of art, technology, and writing. Our 4th graders remembered listening to these stories last year, so they were highly motivated to create interesting characters, attractive posters, and clever stories."

iPads for Everyone: How a small library program became a runaway hit and reached more t... - 21 views

"Walk into our school library and you're bound to see scores of iPads propped up on the tables. Our students at Westlake High, a large suburban school on the outskirts of Austin, TX, are using them to read ebooks, download assignments, edit videos, write blog posts, and to do much more. Since we rolled out our 1:1 iPad program a year ago, more than 4,100 teachers and students, including eighth graders at the nearby middle school and even some of our elementary school classes, have taken advantage of these devices. In fact, they've become as much a part of students' everyday lives as their notebooks, backpacks, and textbooks."

iPads at Burley: Making Book Trailers - 7 views

  •
"Last year I tried my hand at having my class make book trailers. They did a decent job given that I wasn't quite sure how to jump into this new medium. Well, this year we've learned from the past and I'm proud to say that the fifth graders are creating book trailers that are better than ever! "

Mr. Kremer's Blog: Screencasting With Educreations + the iPad Camera - 0 views

  •
"For the past two days, I've had my 7th graders working on a screencasting project. We're currently working in a unit focused on prisms and calculating the surface area and volume of prisms. I gave each pair of students a rectangular prism (a box of some sort), and had them measure its dimensions, calculate the surface area and volume of the prism, and screencast their work--complete with pictures of each of the 3 views of the prism as well as their narration of their work."

Started iPad Rock Star Boot Camp Today | SchoolTechnology.org - 5 views

"Today was my first lesson in my new iPad Rock Star Boot Camp that I am doing with the 4th and 5th graders at my elementary school. The funny things is that I know nothing about music - just to prove that anyone can really rock the iPad if they know a few tricks. So here are the things that we covered today."

"Sixth-grader Thomas Suarez has taken the Web by storm the last couple of weeks. The YouTube video of his TEDx talk in Manhattan Beach, Calif., has more than 445,000 views. Check out how he amazed the crowd by talking about how he created two apps: Bustin Jieber, a Whac-a-Mole for Justin Bieber and Earth Fortune, which shows different colors of the Earth based on the region's fortune."

What Every Teacher Needs to Know about the iPad Initiatives in Schools… - Tea... - 10 views

  •
"This past week I spent three days in iPad training, as every student in 6th, 7th, and 8th grader, in the district I work in, will be carrying their own iPad. All instruction will be geared toward this initiative. Huge changes are coming our way and I have to wonder if we, as teachers, are ready for how instruction will be delivered and assignments will be collected."

"A dozen Las Vegas second-graders were given a common English assignment one recent morning: Write a story using new vocabulary words. But instead of picking up a pencil and paper, these students launched the Pages word processing application on their iPads and started tapping."

Haiku Deck | ipadsammy School Scribbles - 3 views

  •
"I stumbled across a great free app the other day. Haiku Deck bills itself as the alternative to Keynote and Powerpoint. After trying it out, it was very easy to use. I will be sure to use it the next time I present at a conference or professional development session. I immediately tried it out in a classroom of fourth graders who thought it was a slick app to make vocabulary cards with a little encouragement. "

iPads at Burley: Photography with 5th Grade Students - 5 views

  •
"In the next few weeks these 5th grade students are going to be focusing on photography to accompany their writing with both their classroom teacher as well as with me during Technology. The remarkable thing about having only 30 minutes to introduce this very large topic with my students but doing so with iPads, is that all 29 5th graders are sitting on the rug in front of me with a camera, digital darkroom, and publishing suite resting on their laps!"

K-12 iPad Deployment Checklist « - 2 views

"School has started for most of us around the country. Alarm clocks are set, bleary-eyed kids stumble their way to class, and iPads are being handed out. Just a typical day here at Eanes and many districts across the country. As the amount of 1:1 schools and districts continue to grow with many different devices, but specifically the Apple iPad, I thought it might be good to reflect and share the laundry list of items we've prepared in getting ready for our roll-outs. (all high school students, 8th graders, and 2 grade levels at the elementary schools are 1:1 this year) I've already written about 10 things NOT to do in a 1:1 here (the list is growing in year 2) but what about things we SHOULD do?"
