"I was doing a quick (I thought) WiFi sync on my iPad 2 this morning, just to get a new iBook I'd downloaded on the Mac onto it. The sync went quite slowly and during it I caught a glimpse of the Capacity status bar in iTunes - and noticed that free space on the iPad 2 was down to around 7GB free. That's a terribly low amount, given that it's a 64GB model."
"You must have played free games such as Temple Run on your iPad. One might refer to the age-old adage, "All good things come with a prize" and wonder how an awesome game like Temple Run can be free."
"Popular text reflow service Readability has announced that its app will be available on iPhone and iPad for free beginning March 1st. The service is designed to reformat any webpage that you're viewing into a pleasantly readable experience with nicely rendered text and images."
"ShowMe is a free application for iPad which permits anyone to create narrated slideshow videos which can include telestrator ("John Madden") style annotations. The following 7 minute video tutorial highlights the steps to follow to create a narrated slideshow with the ShowMe iPad app, using a photo gallery in Picasa (free from Google) as a virtual image scrapbook for project images."
From time to time, we see people posting questions about how to write on a digital photo on their iPad. Usually, they have to import the photo into a handwriting notes app, write, then export. Starting this weekend through February 14, the full version of A+ Signature is FREE!
"This week's pick is NPR Music for iPad, which offers a superb mix of music from a range of good genres, music news, articles, reviews, interviews, live concerts and exclusive streams and lots more. The App Store page for NPR Music touts it as 'your guide to new music' and 'love at first listen'. And happily, the app nicely lives up to those big promises."
"Lately, I have discovered many cool free apps that are incredible for creating digital stories, reading stories, and interacting with stories. These apps are incredibly engaging and meet the needs of our diverse learners. They allow learners to interact with the plot, characters, and even design of the story. They also support multiple learning styles because they are visual, have sound, and animation."
"WIRED today announced the reissue of its iconic inaugural issue on the iPad as a free download on June 1. Launched nearly twenty years ago in January 1993, the premiere issue featured science fiction author Bruce Sterling on the cover and quickly became a sought-after collectible. "
"If you've been interested in learning how to develop apps for the iPhone and iPad, this may be the best chance yet. Based on Stanford's Fall 2011 iOS development course, the new offering from Stanford gets social and lets you work on assignments with the rest of the enrolled class. "
"This week's pick is Songza - an excellent music streaming app that promises to bring you 'the right music at the right time'. Here are a few of its key features:"
"Editing video on the go with the iPad and iMovie is pretty simple. Below I've grabbed three different free tutorials from Youtube that show you how to use the app. While the tutorials can give you a good of how to use the app, they are free so there are some limitations. If you are looking for really good, thorough tutorials on everything from iMovie to WordPress, I'd recommend subscribing to Lynda.com. These are a good starting point for you though if you've never seen iMovie on the iPad."
"Narrated Slideshows include still images with accompanying audio narration, and may also include annotations which make the videos into screencasts. In this workshop, participants will learn to use the free iPad app EduCreations to create narrated slideshows/screencasts, as well as the commercial (and much more flexible/powerful) iPad app Explain Everything. Participants will also learn to use the free YouTube Capture app for iPad to upload videos to a professional YouTube channel."

Here are some links about our upcoming AppCamp; an idea that was spun out of the last Dust or Magic meeting in anticipation of the flood of touch/motion related hardware. Feel free to call or email me directly if you have any questions or ideas; I'm still forming the agenda.
About: It is time to explore the iPad's potential for children. The Inaugural Dust or Magic Children's App Design Institute is a three-day review of the best (magic) and worst (dust) children's media for handheld devices. We'll critique the state of the art, brainstorm possibilities and test a lot of hardware and apps.
Speakers: The list is growing as the event develops (this is a first). The idea is to bring together a small ( (105 miles from San Francisco on the tip of the Monterey Peninsula.
Cost: $1380 for one seat, $990 for 2-5, plus housing ($130/night). Group size is limited to 60. There will be a free, public AppFest on Sunday and a larger TED-like event in the Chapel. UPENN graduate credit is available; students are welcome to attend the Sunday lecture at no cost pending seating.

I would give my eye teeth to attend this... cost is an issue right now. Sounds amazing! If you need ideas on where to spread the word, let me know. I'll send this out to the Apple Distinguished Educator list for sure.

"iPhone accessibility with VoiceOver This page contains links to information about using the iPhone 3GS with its built-in screen reader VoiceOver, a huge step for eyes-free mobile accessibility. This is a wiki, please feel free to add more links and content. Don't know how?"
"Want to get the most out of your iPad - Are you using it as an e-reader? There are multiple sites that offer free downloads of both classic and contemporary publications and the reading experience on the iPad is actually quite good. The font size, the instant access to chapters and pages and the .......all make for a positive reading experience. Coupled with this is the fact that this is about the only way to get anybody under the age of 20 to read for any length of time at all."
"SteadyLens developers midnox have just released a new, updated, version of the app and changed its name to Luma.
The name change reflects the new features which go beyond just (very good) video stabilisation. The big feature is the price - Luma is now free (dropping the $2.99 / £1.99 in-app upgrade), but we also like the live filters and manual controls."
