 It’s why we have to think of what we want them to do as learners, not what can the iPad do. We have to make the iPad suit the learning, not make the learning suit the iPad to justify having it. So think of the skills you want your students to develop and then work out if the iPad can improve that skill. If it doesn’t, don’t use it.

However, there is no real shift in the learning and teaching model here from the pre-iPad model. Same work, different set of tools.

That is half way there, what teachers most need to do is facilitate children to direct their own learning. So, the sentence needs to read: “It is why we have to think about how we will support them to facilitate their own learning and what skills and knowledge they need to be able to do that.”

6) Digital Literacy by Andy Marcinek (@AndyCinek on Twitter) Objective: Demonstrate what you have learned throughout this class. Consider the Google Zeitgeist 2011 video we watched prior to break. It should work as a demonstration of what you learned as opposed to a retelling of applications and ideas you learned. NOTE: I'm not looking for a PowerPoint presentation. Requirements: Creatively show what you have learned from the course. You may want to demonstrate how you will use these skills in the future. You may want to highlight one application or multiple applications that appeal to you. You may want to present on a specific subject such as digital health and wellness, digital identity, social media, privacy or creative commons. You may want to create something entirely new using the applications and ideas you gleaned from this course. You may want to create a movie trailer for this course. You may want to create a documentary about this course. Or, you may want to do something completely different. Grading: You will be graded on your ability to clearly demonstrate to an audience your learning over the past few weeks. GRANTS FOR LEARNING Webb would likely teach differently without the more than 20 grants she's gotten in recent years. Earlier this year, Webb was one of three educators nationwide who received a grant for the "Fascinating Forensics" project. Students learn how the three branches of U.S. government work together to create, implement and enforce the law. They learn interview techniques plus about physical evidence like blood spatter and fingerprints. In April she received a "true sport award" from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for motivating students to resist performance-enhancing drugs, among other things. In her program, called Webb's Walkers and Recess Runners, students learn about nutritious eating, portion control, personal hygiene, body image, heart rate, metabolism and the importance of physical activity at home. The grants speak to Webb's personal interest. She's an athlete, which she said could also explain her competitive nature for the grants. Winning them, she said, is "like winning a race."
