Library increases attendance with iPhone, iPad apps and classes | TUAW - The Unofficial... - 4 views

"In this day and age of digital books, library attendance is falling as people pick up their Kindles instead of paperbacks. One library in Illinois decided to win back patrons by embracing this technology instead of fighting it, says a report in Winnetka Talk."

Save the Date: Dust or Magic AppCamp, May 2-4, 2010 - 6 views

Here are some links about our upcoming AppCamp; an idea that was spun out of the last Dust or Magic meeting in anticipation of the flood of touch/motion related hardware. Feel free to call or email me directly if you have any questions or ideas; I'm still forming the agenda. About: It is time to explore the iPad's potential for children. The Inaugural Dust or Magic Children's App Design Institute is a three-day review of the best (magic) and worst (dust) children's media for handheld devices. We'll critique the state of the art, brainstorm possibilities and test a lot of hardware and apps. Speakers: The list is growing as the event develops (this is a first). The idea is to bring together a small ( (105 miles from San Francisco on the tip of the Monterey Peninsula. Cost: $1380 for one seat, $990 for 2-5, plus housing ($130/night). Group size is limited to 60. There will be a free, public AppFest on Sunday and a larger TED-like event in the Chapel. UPENN graduate credit is available; students are welcome to attend the Sunday lecture at no cost pending seating. To Register: 800-993-9499 (9-2:30 PM EST), online Please note that space is limited to 60. Seats remaining as of March 6: 39 I appreciate any help marketing this to the right people; and call me with your ideas. W -- Warren Buckleitner, Ph.D

I would give my eye teeth to attend this... cost is an issue right now. Sounds amazing! If you need ideas on where to spread the word, let me know. I'll send this out to the Apple Distinguished Educator list for sure.

60 Apps in 60 Minutes: Mobile 2012 « techchef4u - 0 views

"n hindsight 60 apps in 60 minutes was a bit ambitious. I kind of felt as if we were auctioning off apps. (Perhaps a Nifty Fifty pack would have been a better fit.) For those of you who missed our session…or those of you who attended and caught whiplash from the sheer speed of it, here is a list of all of the apps we (John Samuelson and I) featured."

iTunes U: Free Education for the Masses | iPad.AppStorm - 1 views

"When you cross this free-sometimes-crazy-expensive-the-rest-of-the-time approach with education you end up with iTunes U, the free service and app that puts you into some of the world's greatest classrooms that would cost tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars to normally attend."

"My children started attending Dayton Grade School this past week and to my surprise my son's class provides an iPad for every student. Even today with the proliferation of mobile technology, classrooms across the US run the full spectrum when it comes to technology."

"In the spirit of my last post, I would like to share another science apptivity for the iPad. I wish I could take credit for this one but Bryan P Doyle is the author of the resource. I had the pleasure of attending his session at the Area 7 Conference this summer."

Moving at the Speed of Creativity - FAQs About iPads and Media in the Classroom - 17 views

"During the June and July 2012 sessions of the 3 day workshop "iPad Media Camp," I asked participants to post questions they had about our curriculum as well as related topics using a Google form. Instead of just answering questions in class, I created narrated slideshows using the iPad app "Explain Everything" and posted the videos to YouTube. This way these videos can be used in class (including upcoming sessions) as well as shared with others who couldn't attend in person. Below you'll find the questions addressed in each screencast video as well as the videos themselves."
