"Each of these potential features of the next iPad would definitely increase the potential of more classrooms adopting the iPad sooner than later. After all, that's Apple's goal. So here are some of the recent rumors being discussed in the run-up to Wednesday's big announcement by Apple."

"iMovie is a gleaming jewel in Apple's content creation crown. Much like GarageBand, an app that we feature weekly here on iPad Creative, iMovie enables everyday folk to create beautiful things. iMovie for iOS has always been a pleasure to use, but it wasn't until the latest update that it became essential for just about every iPad owner."

Thoughts on AppleCare for iPads in Schools « EdApps.ca - 4 views

  •
"I don't want to make blanket statements regarding purchases. I fully recognize that every educator, school and institution has to decide what makes sense for them; ultimately, it is you that must live with the purchasing decision. At the same time, I would like to point out some things to consider. Applecare, from what I understand, extends the standard warranty of your iPad from 12 months to 24 months. Additionally, if you crack the screen of your iPad, you can have that iPad replaced for an additional $49 fee over and above the cost of your applecare protection plan of $99."

Hopefully, we will soon be saying goodbye to the fifty pound backpacks our students carry around, and all of their textbooks and learning resources will be available on this one, small device! Whether you are currently using iPads in your school or for yourself...or if you are just beginning to explore the possibilities, I hope you will find resources here to benefit you in your journey. Enjoy this site, share the information with others, and feel free to contact me with any questions or to share your experiences! Below are some of my "musings" as I reflect on where we currently are in our journey with the utilization of technology with our students. Enjoy!"

  •
"Recording a musical masterpiece with GarageBand for iPad is fairly straightforward, especially when using the "smart" instruments together to layer a song together. However, if you don't get the music out of your iPad, no one will hear it. If no one hears it, how will you know how amazing it is? Let's take a look at some basic mixing and sharing features of GarageBand for iPad."

"Like nothing else before it, the iPad has provided a means to involve even these students in music making activities that help develop motor skills, attention span, ability to focus and cognition. In developing these all important skills, students can also become a part of a group that is creating something together, thereby learning how to interact with their peers."

8 Studies Show iPads in the Classroom Improve Education - 31 views

  •
Yes, this is the article. But you know what - if you use the ipad as a doorstop - does it make the classroom better? iPads IN the classroom don't make it better, I would argue that technology, used properly, can improve achievement. But technology used improperly is like the human voice used improperly -it can harm. Anyway, since this is making the rounds, you might want to take a look.

iPads for Everyone: How a small library program became a runaway hit and reached more t... - 21 views

"Walk into our school library and you're bound to see scores of iPads propped up on the tables. Our students at Westlake High, a large suburban school on the outskirts of Austin, TX, are using them to read ebooks, download assignments, edit videos, write blog posts, and to do much more. Since we rolled out our 1:1 iPad program a year ago, more than 4,100 teachers and students, including eighth graders at the nearby middle school and even some of our elementary school classes, have taken advantage of these devices. In fact, they've become as much a part of students' everyday lives as their notebooks, backpacks, and textbooks."

iPads can't improve learning without good teaching Pt 1 - 15 views

  •  It’s why we have to think of what we want them to do as learners, not what can the iPad do. We have to make the iPad suit the learning, not make the learning suit the iPad to justify having it. So think of the skills you want your students to develop and then work out if the iPad can improve that skill. If it doesn’t, don’t use it.
  • However, there is no real shift in the learning and teaching model here from the pre-iPad model. Same work, different set of tools.
  • That is half way there, what teachers most need to do is facilitate children to direct their own learning. So, the sentence needs to read: “It is why we have to think about how we will support them to facilitate their own learning and what skills and knowledge they need to be able to do that.”
