Copper prices touched a low of $7625/tonne during the week and ended its trading session at $7657.50/tonne on Friday. Stock market cautious remains on weak global cues During the week (monday to friday), the markets initially saw range-bound trading but witnessed a sharp fall just before it closed on Thursday on weak global cues. The BSE Sensex slipped 350 points on October 16 to close at 25,999 on Trade4Target. Even on Friday it opened weak and was trading in the negative on Trade4target.

Lead prices rose by 0.24 per cent on Friday at the domestic markets as a result of high demand for the commodity from battery-maker in the spot market in the midst of strong overseas trend.

On Friday JPMorgan Chase (JPM) posted very solid numbers on the earnings front. Jamie Dimon and friends turned in $0.74 EPS rather than the Thomson Reuters estimate of $0.62 EPS. The 2.25% drop took the stock down to $43.68, and that is still very much at the high-end of the 52-week trading range.

Spot gold had risen USD 1.15 an ounce to USD 1,463.65 by 0025 GMT, having posted its biggest weekly gain in three months last week. Gold prices were pressured by strong US equity markets which touched a record high and dented gold's safe haven appeal. Outflows from gold-backed exchange-traded funds showed no signs of abating and fell to the lowest level since August 2009. SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchangetraded fund's holdings fell 0.31 percent to 1062.30 tonnes on Monday from 1065.61 tonnes on Friday. Gold prices internationally are likely to go down as stronger US economic outlook and improved risk appetite is likely to push gold prices down. China PMI numbers has declined and so are the non ferrous metals that were surging higher until yesterday on the back of expectations of rise in PMI. The purchasing managers' index (PMI) for China's manufacturing sector fell to 50.4 percent in January from 50.6 percent in December, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said Friday. Precious metals prices rose in unison with equities and commodities on Friday, notching a weekly gain, after U.S. nonfarm payrolls data showed modest job growth in January. SILVER prices on MCX declined. At 11:07 hrs MCX SILVER March contract was trading at Rs 58282 down Rs 136, or 0.23%. The SILVER rate touched an intraday high of Rs 58369 and an intraday low of Rs 58195. So far 2254 contracts have been traded. MCX Gold April contract dropped sharply last week, especially on Friday and breached 30300 level and closed near 30194. The development is confirmed with the view that fall from 32454 is still in progress. Near term outlook stays bearish as long as 30840 minor resistances holds. Current decline should target a test on 29614 & 28769 low next. In the long term picture, with 28769 support intact, there is no change in the long term bullish outlook in gold. Gold imports to India, the world's biggest consumer, are likely to fall by as much as 26%, or by 200 to 250 tonnes, in 2012 as record high prices hit the budgets of consumers, said the head of Thomson Reuters GFMS on Friday.
