Gold futures declined on Monday, as strength in the dollar and worries that the US Federal Reserve will ease back on its easy monetary policy, pushed precious metals prices down for the third straight session. Gold holdings of SPDR gold trust, the largest ETF backed by the precious metal, declined to 1,051.65 tons, as on May 10. Silver holdings of ishares silver trust, the largest ETF backed by the metal, increased to 10,440.4 tons, as on May 8. Increased sales of new homes in the U.S. on the London Metal Exchange copper prices got some support. But the domestic market is the rupee has been under pressure from the metal. Base metals are expected to go up as China's copper imports rose 2.9 percent to 350,958 tonnes in January in the previous month and can support prices on improved outlook for demand after the holiday season ends.Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange closed down 0.30 percent at $8,210 a tonne. Natural gas prices are likely to go down due to high production and inventories. However cold weather forecasts can limit the downside. Front-month gas futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange ended down 13.3 cents, or 3.9 percent, at $3.285 per million British thermal units after sinking to an intraday low of $3.282 late in the session....
