Main Blog - National Geographic Kids Blogs - 1 views

  • Over the past 25 years, 8,763,377 volunteers have cleaned
  •
Interesting and safe blogs for kids. Kids from around the world add stories, pictures, and videos of experiences from around the world. Good site to allow children to look through freely.
  •
Blog rules are clearly posted. Sub blogs, like DogEared (about books), Green Scene (about taking care of the planet), and You Are Here (searching for landmarks) are cool for kids to post pictures of themselves and find out about cultures, animals, and trends around the world. This would be good for kids!

Smithsonian Education - Welcome - 0 views

  •
This website is organized into three parts: educators, families, and students. The Educator part gives teachers many great teaching materials, online resources, lesson plans, field trip ideas and professional development resources. The Families part gives tipes and suggestions for families planning on visiting the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. The Students part gives students links to discover the museum as well as various links and resources to explore different subjects from school. The resources include websites, games, and activities.
  •
I liked how you could search for topics by state standards and grade level besides subject. This would be a good resources for both kids and teachers. The separate kids section is also a good exploratory site in that they can discover things on their own.

Math Snacks - 1 views

  •
Great Resource for math classes. This has interactive games for kids to play, and it also has videos for them to watch. It puts a new twist on some common math concepts. Great lesson ideas available for math teachers.
  •
I definitely agree that this resource can be used efficiently in my own future classroom. I LOVE math, and enjoyed looking through this website. I liked how it included a teachers corner that gives teachers many ideas and tips on how to use the videos and games in a math lesson/unit. This resource is geared towards both students and teachers; the games and videos are mainly for students benefit, but the teachers corner is also a great resource for teachers. There are many other great websites that include interactive games and videos for teachers to use with their students (as well for students to practice on their own at home). Some examples are: http://illuminations.nctm.org/, http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/vlibrary.html, and http://gregtangmath.com/.

The Power of Educational Technology - 1 views

  •
Blog about technolgy, first blog deals exclusively with our author, Cuban.
  •
I thought the blog you posted here was full of well intentioned, relevant posts. It is great to have a resource from a teacher's perspective that is out and dealing with technology. The growing pains of others can be the building blocks for the rest of us. Thanks for sharing.
  •
I agree that this blog is a useful resource that can be used efficiently in my own future classroom because it contains relevant blog posts about using technology in the classroom. I feel that this resource is geared towards teacher use because the blog is about using technology in the classroom, which is generally, up to the teacher to decide and when how to do that. Great technology resource! Thanks for sharing.

278 MATH teacher wiki - home - 0 views

  •
This wiki is a resource for teachers to use to improve the education of their students. This wiki focuses on Math. I could use this wiki for personal reasons, I am a math minor and love to read up on various techniques used to teach math to elementary students. Also, students can use this wiki as a resource and medium for projects as well.

The Teacher's Corner - Lesson Plans, Worksheets and Activities - 0 views

  •
This website is a great resource for teachers to use to improve their classroom and teaching. It includes lesson plans, activities, thematic units, bulletin board ideas, printable worksheets, collaboration projects, books, and other resources as well. I would use this to help improve my teaching. I would also have my students look at the bulletin board ideas and help me put together bulletin boards.

This source is a blog by Alexander Russo, who is a former teacher and freelance education writer. His blog is hosted by Scholastic.com and is considered on of the best education blogs. I would use this blog to keep myself updated on issues in education as a way to help me be the best teacher I can be.

Greetingsfromtheworld - Meet the Teachers - 1 views

  •
Fun wiki for students and teachers. It gives the students a chance to look at what other students are doing around the world in school including projects, activities, and school lives. It is a great way to connect with others in a controlled environment
  •
Before this site I had never even heard of a Glog, but after this site I find them to be very interesting and useful. The variety of information on this site is so vast and with so many participants from so many locations the content is great. This would be a great project for a classroom to participate in, through Glogs, which would be fun and educational at the same time for students. They could create their own or browse others for a quality yet interactive lesson. I will add it to the "someday I want to use this in my classroom" list. Thanks for sharing.

Audioboo - 1 views

  •
Audio Boo is a web 2.0 tool that allows you to record, attach pictures and location, then post to the web. This would be a good tool for group projects, partners could record ideas and thoughts where ever they are and then post for their entire group or instructor to listen.
  •
Free audio recording tool you can use from the computer or your mobile phone.
  •
This sounds very interesting. My first time hearing of this. I think this would be a good tool to use. I just have to learn more about it.

Early ACCESS Iowa - 0 views

  •
This is Iowa's early intervention.  This is for children that are birth to age three.  This is early access' links and resources pages.  Having this page is help because these resources are researched before they are put onto this page.
  •
This would be a great resource in my future classroom because it is has well researched, reliable links to provide information on early intervention resources. Many times teachers do not have the knowledge of ability to provide an individual child with what they need. So this site can direct teachers to organizations and resources that can help that child. This site would only be used by teachers, health care providers, social service agencies, and parents. It is not designed for students learning activities or a resource for coursework. I am not aware of any other resources like this that focus on birth through age three.

Flat Classroom Certified Teacher Course - Information and Announcement - 0 views

  •
This is a link to the program for "Flat Classroom teacher certification" (2 credits through UNI).
  •
This link is more about providing information on training that is available for teachers that want to become flat classroom certified rather than direct information that could be used by a teacher in the classroom. This makes the information contained in this resource exclusively for teacher use for possible teacher development. I know that the AEA 267 website http://www.aea267.k12.ia.us/pd/ has listings of teacher development courses but I did not see one anywhere else on flat classrooms. This course is one that I might consider taking in the future.

This article highlights the 2001: Space Odyssey "Hal"-like voice controlled super-smart computer assistant features of the iPhone 4s, and what implications it may have for the future of learning. It also sheds light on the dangers of reliance on such technology, specifically that whoever controls the information accessed by this technology will control users' thoughts/perceptions/minds, etc.
