Virtual Government Network Collaboration Framework. The framework elements generic in the sense that they could apply to any large-scale collaboration network; in this example they have been populated with the Virtual Government Network in mind.

Today we're introducing Google Fusion Tables on Labs, an experimental system for data management in the cloud. It draws on the expertise of folks within Google Research who have been studying collaboration, data integration, and user requirements from a variety of domains. Fusion Tables is not a traditional database system focusing on complicated SQL queries and transaction processing. Instead, the focus is on fusing data management and collaboration: merging multiple data sources, discussion of the data, querying, visualization, and Web publishing. We plan to iteratively add new features to the systems as we get feedback from users.

Michael, It's interesting that I had already Diigo bookmarked Google Fusion Labs on 26th August. This illustrates something I was observing with Steve the other day; that social bookmarking seems to be 'one-way'. In other words we all stuff things into Diigo, but why? Other than transitory email alerts to new bookmarks, I have no feel for emerging themes, or common bookmarks via Diigo. This is something the Knowledge Hub will no doubt surface in activity streams and emerging themes (I hope!)

New approaches to information, data sharing and engagement are helping local public services work more closely with citizens. Using social media strategically and opening up public data can have significant benefits to citizens and local government. The following are some examples and resources available to support collaborative working.

Open PSI is a collaboration between the University of Southampton and the UK government, lead by the National Archive, to trial a new form of community provisioned information service. This is a new form of "community provisioned" Information Service where we hope to stimulate interaction between the following communities: public sector information publishers, the research community, mashup creators

Live collaboration options using DimDim

ScraperWiki is an online tool to make that process simpler and more collaborative. Anyone can write a screen scraper using the online editor, and the code and data are shared with the world. Because it's a wiki, other programmers can contribute to and improve the code. And, if you're not a programmer yourself, you can request a scraper or ask the ScraperWiki team to write one for you.

OpenStreetMap is a free editable map of the whole world. It is made by people like you. OpenStreetMap allows you to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way from anywhere on Earth.

The Knowledge Hub programme aims to create a single window to improvement in local government. It will use Web 2.0 technology and services, and build on the current community of practice platform, to support networking, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
