The other alternatives to scratch that I looked at was Gamemake studio, Hackety Hack and Wideo.co (Found this through my curated project). The Gamemake studio program is very much like scratch. The only problem that I have with this resource is that students needed to create their own scripts, backgrounds etc., there were no generic ones that students could use. I found this to be very difficult to use and read as the background was in black and the writing was in green. I don't think this alternative is student friendly.
Hackety Hack on the other hand was more suitable for students. This application was very colourful and eye catching. It is free and students can create games and applications. It includes a guided tour on how to use the application. I think is this is great part of the app as teachers can leave their brighter students to go ahead and create something and the teacher can spend a little more time with the students who need extra help.

    Independent project:
The independent project that I created is based on the scratch program of drawing a shape. I started with going through the guided tour to help me get started. This program is quite easy to use and many students would be able to use this program to create games and pictures. This fits in the Australian curriculum: technologies aims of developing knowledge, understanding and skills to ensure that, individually and collaboratively, students [can] effectively and responsibly select and manipulate appropriate technologies, resources, materials, data, systems, tools and equipment when designing and creating products, services, environments and digital solutions.( ACARA, 2012). Students will learn how to create and upload their creation for others to enjoy. This resource would be great for middle to upper primary school students.
