GSM & CDMA operators move TDSAT against TRAI's VAS procedures - 0 views

    After GSM and CDMA Telecom operators, state-controlled telecom firm BSNL has moved sectoral tribunal TDSAT against TRAI's directive on offering Value-Added-Services (VAS). BSNL has challenged the show-cause notice issued by Trai on July 18, 2012 for implementation of VAS guidelines. The TDSAT bench headed by its Chairman Justice S B Sinha has directed to list the matter for October 3 for hearing. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal has also listed the petitions of GSM lobby group Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and CDMA's Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI) against the TRAI directive.

    Mobile phone companies that win spectrum in the upcoming 2G airwaves auction will receive unified licences at the circle level and will be allowed to migrate to the full unified licensing regime by December, according to telecom ministry. This will provide clarity to interested applicants, especially Reliance Industries' Infotel Broadband that has a pan-India wireless broadband access licence and is learnt to be interested in participating in the upcoming airwaves sale. Representatives of the company had sought clarity from the telecom department in the pre-bid conference last week on the type of licences that will be given after the auction.
