This blog is about teaching Digital Literacy at Journey School, a progressive public charter school in Aliso Viejo, CA, that utilizes Waldorf teaching methods. The administrator and teacher at Journey agreed to turn a weekly civics class into CyberCivics, so that students enter cyberspace as well-prepared digital citizens. This is their journey!

Using Voicethread for Digital Conversations   Beginning with email and instant messages and stretching to texting and synchronous video web conferencing, digital dialogue has gradually become a common element of everyday life for today's students-another opportunity to "gather." The kinds of personal relationships shaped on the playground in an earlier era are now developed in MySpace and Facebook.  While the format may be different, the purpose remains the same:  Our students are crafting identities and are driven to connect.

Suzie Boss and Jane Krauss's book Reinventing Project Based Learning is a wealth of information about digital tools, the internet and Web 2.0 and how these tools can be used to meet the essential learning needs of 21st century students.  Here are some ideas taken from Chapter 3 of the book, all of which I've used with primary students and which I have tried to align with the new ICT in the PYP strands.
