    Summary: There is currently a proposal in LA to turn library cards into ID cards for illegal immigrants that would enable them to do things such as open a bank account and access city services. There is currently controversy over this proposal; opponents argue that such measures would encourage illegal immigration and that such a system could be exploited by terrorists and criminals and that such a measure might encourage current illegal immigrants to stay in hopes that they will become naturalized. Proonents are advocating for benefits for illegal immigrants since they are disadvantaged in every which way.
