For example, the real estate, the hospitality industry, government offices, manufacturing and many other agencies and industries. As for the hotel industry, it provides timely and effective information to the front desk clerck what are required of the guests in hotel room. Also, it helps hotel staff handling reservations, checking guests in and out, assigning rooms and managing room inventory, and handling accounting and billing. • Long Term Financing in Hospitality Industry
  • Renovations, upgrading and expansions are done through long term financing in hospitality.
  • Long term financing in hospitality industry gives a lot of investment potentials.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Business plans in hospitality succeeds with expertise, experience and cost effective plans.
  •
Long term financing in hospitality is often done for a period of more than one year. Such financing will have good impacts on hospitality industry like renewing its equipments and meeting operating costs with smooth cash flow. Therefore it is a cost-effective way to help hotels during their tough times in accounting and cash problems. Like we learned in accounting and financing classes, ratio analysis is the best  method to analyze finance in a hotel, which compares the current ratio with the past in order to make feasible investments in the future. What's more, long term financing in hotel industry gives lots of investment potentials. For example, by investing new sectors in F&B as well as accommodation, the job opportunity has also been increased. Besides the investments in hotels, hospitality investment also includes in airlines, cruise lines and tourism bureaus which can also bring profits. So long term financing help hospitality industry make a successful goal with experience and cost effective strategic plan in order to attract more and more tourists as well as guests.
  •
I didn't agree with the pricing method of examining the past and the prices. What for? Prices, consumers wants and needs along with products constantly change. It's an unpredictable market at times. So examining the history would be a waste of time, the only thing you could possibly get from this would be to see how much your costs have gone up in recent years and plain your profit margins accordingly. But you can do this with out having to manage your previous records and histroy. You could just look at any expense report and go from there

Reforming hospitals with IT investment - McKinsey Quarterly - Health Care - Strategy & Analysis - 1 views

  • Mandated upgrades to health care IT will demand heavy investments by providers but will help them minimize waste and standardize best medical practice.
  • New regulations that require US health care providers to use electronic health records (EHR) and adhere to strict data-coding standards will force hospitals to spend billions of dollars over the next decade to upgrade their IT systems.
  • We estimate that total savings across the US provider landscape could be on the order of $40 billion annually.
  •
IT Investments are on the rise in this world. The thought of savings money and appearing to be environmentally conciscious catches the eye of many big companies and industries. In the case of this article, United States health care providers are now demanding that hospitals make the switch from traditional paper systems to an all electronic system. This investment will cost health providers billions of dollars for the time being, however the return on investment could be a $40 billion savings for the industry in savings alone. The return on investment regarding this switch from paper to computer will require proper training and management skills in order to be successful.

Keeping hotel locks safe | Hotel Management - 1 views

Nowadays, locks security is an essential issue in hospitality industry. Actually, most hotels upgrate their locks systems with advanced technology. The role of technology in the security sector is fundamental, but despite the rapid technological progress, one thing has remained constant: the importance of trust. Whether hoteliers wising up to the fact that they've bought what could be called a flawed security system will be willing to trust the supplier of said equipment for a fix.
  • After installation, hotels must work to keep their staff trained and their system upgraded to keep pace with the latest security issues.

This article discusses the security issues with room keys. These hotel locks will not open with cards that are read as duplicates or duplicatable. The locking mechanism has been specifically designed to alert the front desk and secuirty departments in the event these locks are tampered with. I'm sure at one point or another we have all experimented with our room key and tried to open other doors. A system like this will prevent activity like that.

VingCard Elsafe, the global leader in hospitality security and part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, announces that it has phased out the use of brass metal plating and painting in the manufacture of its locking systems, opting instead to use a more eco-friendly process to color stainless steel. VingCard Elsafe has adopted a new method of metal coloration called physical vapor deposition, or PVD, an environmentally friendly process that involves vaporizing an alloy onto stainless steel within a heated vacuum. PVD requires no chemicals and produces no waste or hazardous materials of any kind, resulting in no environmental impact whatsoever. The PVD process has other added benefits, as well. PVD-treated surfaces have high wear resistance for discoloration, and the stainless steel adds enhanced anti-corrosion properties. Besides eliminating the negative environmental effects of the brass plating process, the move by VingCard Elsafe to simplify its lock manufacturing process has had other related green benefits. By doing away with the need for secondary surface treatments of the locks, new product components are now supplied directly from metal stamping to the point of use in the assembly line. This means less shipping and transportation is required for product manufacture, resulting in a diminished carbon footprint.

VingCard Elsafe is a new kind of lock system, which contains RFID technology and is compatible with the Near Field Communications. It has several advantages compared to traditional magstripe locks. First of all, it can add security to the RFID card and prevent cloning, which is much safer than the traditional key card. Another is that it can detect tampering and know when and where staffs use the lock. It can send alert to the front desk. Moreover, the front desk can know when the door is forced open. However, before using the lock system, training program should be provided. So this new kind of lock system brings safety to the guests and to the hotels.

This article talk about the issue that hotel are having with their security system lock for guest room. These cards are easy to duplicate. The new system will alert front desk or security if the lock has been tampered with. Other alarms include detecting that a door is forced open 'mule tool' instruction when a door is open from the inside handle without an occupant in the room.

This article discusses the current state of hotel lock safety. Monitoring safety has changed as these locks become more automated. The article states that, "Hotel Management corresponded with Tim Shea, president of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality, for ways in which vendors are keeping hotel locks secure." Through VingCard Elsafe's locks, hotel security and safety has increased. VingCard says, "Our Classic magstripe locks do not store critical security information within individual locks, such as master key information, and any service device must authenticate itself through diversified encryption methods to gain access to the lock software." This is just one of the ways the locks increase security. The article also states that the system is cost-effective for hoteliers.

Too many companies do not realize how important it is for them to have a representable website. A company that has a webiste shows people it is more likely a legitimate company. A company with a nice website tells people its employees take whatever they do seriously, in which make it easier for potential customers to consider using its service. How many times have people nevigate away from a website only because how pathetic it looks not even caring how good the company is? All the money a company spends on advertisement and marketing can go to waste after just one click.

2 New LEED Certified Hotels Open Their Doors In Los Angeles - 0 views

  •
LEED is developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Its responsibility is to promote sustainable building and development practices through a suite of rating systems for buildings that implement better environmental and health performance. There are two new LEED certified hotels opened in Los Angeles. One is the Shore Hotel. This hotel a Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) registered property that offers eco-friendly accommodations with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Shore Hotel owns some sustainable features such as 50% of construction waste was recycled or salvaged, wood used in the project is from sustainable forests, 10% of all building materials are from within a 500 mile radius of the project, 'Low flow' water fixtures, significantly reducing water consumption and native landscaping, reducing the extent of required irrigation. The hotel took significant measures to ensure that the design, construction and operation of the facility will reduce the impact on the environment. Another is Hotel Wilshire. It has the sustainable features such as use of building materials with high recycled content. For example, carpeting was made of recycled materials and installed without harmful VOC adhesives, high efficiency HVAC systems route heating and cooling throughout the building based on individualized, local controls using much less energy than traditional temperature control systems and all lighting is LED or compact fluorescent, significantly reducing electrical usage.

Smart Mobile Payment Processing - 1 views

  •
In this article by Hospitality Business News, the author emphasizes the benefits of the new Mobile Payment Processing and the basic knowledge of the Smart Phone payment. This payment way attracts a lot restaurants owners' eyes, especially in large cities and big restaurants. This Mobile payment revolutionizes the traditional payment method in hotels and restaurants, and it brings much convenience to both merchants and customers. First, it can definitely increase speed of the table turn and save time for consumers and servers. Time is money, especially in the business, customers don't need to give the card to server, and then the server brings the card to the front desk, later bring it back to the customers and customers get that. that's a waste of time compared to this smart phone payment. Second, it is also a fully integrated extension of the current POS system, it makes the POS better and resolve some patches of the current POS. it is a win-win for everyone involved. This Mobile Payment Processing is now being applied in 13 states in 49 cities. In the future, I believe that it will be applied wider than that and it will be more and more popular all over the world, especially for those busy businesses.

Here is something interesting for you Mac users. Did you knew that you are actually being charged more to use websites like Orbitz or Priceline? Don't believe me, well check it out. Over the last year or two Orbitz has been working on what they call "predictive analytics". Meaning they are able to predict where consumers will likely book their reservations based on what computer they are using. The article states that, Mac users are 40% more likely to book a four to five star hotel than PC users. Since companies like Orbitz (who took a 37 million dollar loss in 2011) are taking big hits from the lack of travelling thanks to the economy, they are trying to create any advantage they can in order to turn the market around. One thing to point out, is that Orbitz's competitors like Priceline and Expedia said that they do not base their sales on what computers the consumers are using, Apple had no comment. Orbitz said the effort to incorporate Mac vs. PC distinctions is still in its formative stages and isn't evident across the site. Other factors have more influence over results, Mr. Liew said, including a user's location and history on the site, as well as a hotel's overall popularity and promotions. Still, he said, use of a Mac can influence results.

The best part of the article is how it states a good POS system is one that doesn't let you waste time with the POS. Instead your attention can be turned to your customers and staff. The system will do everything for you just by a touch of buttons from the screen. All you would have to do is print out the information and it will tell you everything you need to run a sucessfull establishment.

Eco-Friendly Practices: Deeper Shades of Green in Hospitality - Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium - 0 views

  • The company replaced its signature quilted bedspreads with unquilted coverlets. The new coverlets minimize washing and drying time, thereby conserving energy. New window treatments have increased energy efficiency. The all-new design also incorporates wood-effect flooring made from unused industry scraps, fluorescent light bulbs in all rooms, low flow shower heads, high efficiency toilets, and high efficiency heating and air-conditioning units.
  • Greening through the Supply Chain and Purchasing Sustainable purchasing practices vary widely, but there is a growing industry movement to become more sustainable through strategic selection of products and services.
  • Some view sustainability through the performances of recycling programs, energy efficiency, water conservation, or waste minimization, others through the lens of corporate social responsibility.

This article is talking about current situation of how green concepts influences hospitality industry. Become more and more green and sustainable is the goal of many hotels, they've tried to achieve the goal through many ways in recent years. The hospitality industry is recognizing the compelling need to adopt sustainable operating practices for the sake of efficiency, cost savings and green building requirements. And also they are considering whether green can drive greater returns. Corporate travel executives set the rewards to encourage sustainable purchasing by reward. In fact, different people have different opinions of "green". Mostly, hostels chose to become more sustainable through strategic selection of products and services. Such as they use the conserving energy coverlets, shower, window, toilet and so on. Besides, hospitality managers want a consistent guidelines and performance targets to be used by purchase influencers and decision makers to make solutions for cost saving more effective. Now there are more and more people realize this concept and there already has a preliminary guideline for prioritizing actionable, practical solutions to achieve long-term growth of having a "green forest in hospitality".

Orion by VingCard Elsafe top energy management innovation for hospitality - 1 views

  •
At the 2010 International Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Show (IHMRS) held in New York, Orion by VanCard cooped the green initiative for its in-room management system. This technology is very welcome as many hotels struggle with the astronomical cost of energy consumption, especially when they are experiencing low occupancy and rooms have to be maintained for longevity. How this system works is that though its wireless online locks, room temperature is controlled. This can also work for lights as well. Vacant rooms are set at a standard temperature, one a guest is checked in the front desk alerts the system and the room temp is adjusted for the arrival of the guest. Once the guest leaves the room the temperature is once again adjusted, This is a great initiative as, though many guest display social consciousness of energy conservation, they don't always have the habit and discipline to go along with this. So to have their movements tracked and adjust room temperature is great news for hoteliers. The only challenge or question I have regarding this system is if it has the capability to personalize room temperature setting. For example if my temperature preference is outside of the set zone, how can this be addressed. often times in hotels guest may asked about adjusting temp and are told that its a centralized system that cannot be adjusted. They in turn open windows and doors that is counter to this initiative. Nonetheless the cost saving that can be derived for this system is huge in terms of energy conservation and less negative impact of global warming.
  •
This system really helps the hotels to save energy and costs. When I check-in in a hotel, the room temperature is top three things that I concern of a hotel. When I'm in the room, I like to adjust the temperature to a really low degree so that the room is cooled down really quickly. Then when I leave my room, I always forget to adjust it back. Therefore, there are a lot of energy being wasted before I come back to my room again. This system helps to control the room temperature and save energy and cut costs. There's one thing I need to mention is that this system must be maintained carefully and based on daily routine. Otherwise the repairing costs or even the replacing costs would be tremendous. The other good thing about the system also communicates with other in-room systems like the lock system which means they can be integrated and operated in the same online platform.
  •
This is so true. This is defiantly a good system since it is difficult to control the habits of the guess. They are really not thinking about cost impact. I agree that maintenance of the system is critical.

Going green in Monte Carlo - Travel - MiamiHerald.com - 0 views

  • The Société’s environmental successes range from banning red (bluefin) tuna to the recovery of ink cartridges in a sophisticated recycling program that reclaims six different kinds of waste.
  • What’s noteworthy about Monaco’s firm resolve for environmental protections is that it enhances the vaunted Monte Carlo experience, from the quiet serenity of its piney beaches to the lively buzz of the Place du Casino, arguably the hub of Monte Carlo’s dazzling nightlife, where the iconic Belle Epoque casino and Hôtel de Paris still glow dramatically every night, albeit with low-power floodlights.
  •
Hotel de Paris in opulent Monte Carlo, Monaco pleasantly surprises as a forerunner in the hospitality industry's green revolution. Prince Albert II leads by example after having a 'sustainably' lavish wedding using local and fair-trade products. Even though "mullet carpaccio" does not sound delectable to me; I am sure world renowned Chef Alain Ducasse knows how to transform the ordinary into extraordinary. Prince Albert II went so far to even have his cows supply the milk for his ice cream dessert, I call that dedication. With such excellent leadership and funding in the green initiative the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation addresses three major environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity and water consumption. Because of the Foundation visitors to Monaco participate in the green initiative with or without their knowledge. The casino, four hotels, several restaurants and spas all educate their staff on how to "be green." Hybrid shuttles, organic farming, reclaimed watering, on-site herb gardens and the banning of bluefin tuna are all examples of how the hospitality industry in Monaco has gone green. Monaco's will and initiative in the green revolution is inspiring. I hope that every hotel worldwide can try to adopt some of these practices and look to Monaco as a role model.

Luxury and sustainability coexist at Breakers Palm Beach - 1 views

Highlights: Several of the recycling initiatives are housed in the delivery area, where you can see the following not-so-glamorous but significant processes: -The collection of aluminum, plastic and glass for recycling. -Baling cardboard so it can be hauled and sold. -The collection of office paper to be sold for newspaper manufacturing. -The containment of waste cooking oil to be sold to make biodiesel fuel. My Descriptions: The author had a back-of-the-house tour of this hotel in the 140 acres of Palm Beach island, and she regard it eco-tourism. She found this hotel separate different trash in different box, and then sell this recycling materials to local supplies. One special thing in this hotel is that Native drought-tolerant vegetation has replaced more exotic flora. This hotel also has an organic and vegetable garden providing its restaurant with fresh organic produce. The reverse-osmosis plant and 1,100-foot-deep well treats unusable salt water to be used for irrigation of The Ocean Golf Course. It is really a concrete example of a hotel present its green initiatives. This idea can be widely used in hotel landscaping and purchasing.

Selecting a Hospitality Call Accounting System - 1 views

  • The trick to selecting a hospitality call accounting system is to know how to eliminate unsuitable options quickly by asking the right questions.
  • The trick to selecting a hospitality call accounting system is to know how to eliminate unsuitable options quickly by asking the right questions. There's no shortage of supply just suitable solutions. Different properties have different requirements and we have yet to find a solution that fits every type of property from a hotel chain through to a single location motel. The best way to choose between the dozens of call accounting systems is to have a checklist identifying requirements in descending order from mandatory through to "nice to have." If a short-listed candidate doesn't satisfy a critical requirement waste no more time, move onto the next and repeat the cycle. The objective is to identify one or more call accounting systems that satisfy all mandatory requirements. It's only at that stage that cost should be considered. Cost is irrelevant if a "solution" can't do the job. If you're lucky enough to find two or more options that are fully compliant then cost becomes the final consideration.

This article introduces brief suggestions about how to select a hospitality call accounting system. And the best way is to have a checklist identifying requirements in descending order from mandatory through to "nice to have." Such as, (1). A call accounting software package must be proven and specific to the hospitality industry. (2). Because of the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) PBX (private branch exchange) has now superseded the TDM (time-division-multiplexing) PBX, so the solution needs to be compatible with hotels' existing PBX and whatever comes along in the future. (3). Hotels should choose different call accounting systems based on Single-site or multi-site businesses they have. (4). And the hospitality call accounting systems should integrate seamlessly with all major accounting software packages. (5). Software updates should be provided regularly (6). Competent 24x7 support is essential to assure hotels cost recovery and protect against revenue loss. (7). Software is easy to use and clearly but succinctly documented due to the high turnover of staff in hotels. And a web interface is a nice to have, but not an essential feature. Of course the best choice can vary because of different operation in hotels.

  • It didn’t take long to recognize that conserving resources saved money that could be used for infrastructure upgrades and new facilities
  • The concept caught on quickly, expanding to more than 30 Army installations, including posts in Germany, Alaska and Hawaii. Now, the Army hopes to take it a step further with net-zero energy, waste and water initiatives. Several pilot programs are expected to be announced during next week’s Earth Day observance.
  • The 1-megawatt facility, to become operational later this year, will provide one-third of the power for the nation’s largest Army Reserve training post, and ultimately it will save $1 million in energy costs annually,
  • Costs largely drove that decision.
  • It also involves working as partners with communities -- those directly on the installation as well as beyond its gates -- to pursue environmental goals.

I agree every event planner I met at SOBEWFF was on their Ipad 24/7- you sort of feel out of the loop without one. However while observing the benefits of new technology, increased response rates and efficiency, there were still issues that required a phone call rather than an e-mail. In the planning stage this technology is all very helpful but the day of personal interaction is required. Also as far as CRM event planners are still very hands on in terms of making their presence known through face-to-face interactions. The industry still relies heavily on personal relationships.
