Connectivity in the hotel industry is the ability to connect a global distribution system and a hotel reservation system. This will allow the transactions of business to take place more efficient and reservations to be done more quickly. The ability to connect globally allows businesses to operate in areas where they may not have otherwise done so. GDS provides economic boost world wide. Nothing is flawless, however GDS has brought about more good than bad. The electronic reservation process has improved dramatically.

This article is based on information for M2M Communication which stands for machine to machine communications. This is the action of computing and non-computing devices communicating to enhance a guest experience. Not only can this be a better experience for the guest but also more cost effective for the business. Temper control can set the air to a comfortable temperature once a guest has arrived in the room. When the guest is not in the room the cooling unit can return to an energy saving mode.

This article is based on the evolution of the Property Management System. With the ever going usage of PMS just about every sector of the hotel is tied into the PMS. With the PMS communicating with all other sectors of the hotel the business will thus run more efficiently. However, with all things considered it is costly to operate at this level. It also requires a lot of space.
Hotels have adopted the idea of virtulization. The basic concept is that specialized control software allows the physical resources of a single computer server-memory, disk space and computing power-to be divided as needed between several different software applications, each perceived to be running on its own dedicated server. This takes up far less space for equipment allowing companies to reduce equipment purchasing and the energy cost that it takes to power the equipment.
Cloud computing takes virtualization to the next step. Cloud computing takes up no space and is typically ran by a third party vendor. With cloud major equipment upgrades are not necessary as applications may just be implemented. Cloud essentially creates an environment with more technology options for a hotel without the astronomical fees associated with traditional PMS.
