  • For the hotel industry, this often largely involves an I.T. department that ensures the hotel management system is reliable, HR office that recruits the best talents, and more importantly; a hotel accounting software that ensures secure and reliable financial management.
  •
The article outlines the power of integrated back office solutions for hotels and hotel chains. The article was an interesting read and brought up many good points. I think the first line highlighted in pink is a critical position in the article. In hospitality we put a lot of involvement with the I.T department as they stated. It is critical for I.T to support and ensure the hotel management systems are reliable, HR is recruits effective and that the account software is reliable and secure. These systems are completed by the back office. The back office is important to a hotel chain. They work behind the scenes to get the job done. Back offices are required in order to increase productivity and complete tasks. While of course there are positives and negatives with anything, I think the positives of the back office are crucial. The positives include the system administrator is cheaper, integration makes system administration easier, the most complex back offices can run from anywhere and there is increased room for accelerated growth. Back offices are not guest facings so they can operate in a more relaxed environment. The work can be completed anywhere which increases accessibility. Back offices are a key to the industry which provide an important service for hotels.

Tablets replacing paper menus in restaurants - a long-term trend or too problematic? - ... - 0 views

  •
The hospitality industry is a service driven industry. In order to enhance service menus are a current topic of concern. Through the benefits of technology traditional menus are being replaced by E-Menus, ipos, menu pad, deplooid, own point, imenu and many more. This article outlines E -Menus in the form of a tablet and its associated concerns for the long term. In traditional times menus were in the form of paper however, in today's day we are moving towards a technology based society. The core features of the tablet menu for a restaurant are noted as customization, visualization and engagement. A tablet menu allows for a restaurant to ditch the paper. This provides a change and the ability for your restaurant to stand out against the competition. It is however important to note, tablets should not replace the traditional server or waitress. As noted in our previous discussion topics I think technology should be used as an enhancement not a full replacement. As with anything there are both negatives and positives. The article notes theft, credit card security, breakage as several negatives to look out for. Tablet menus are a trend but not one that every restaurant will adapt. The restaurants who adopt new menu changes are able to take the risk. At the end of the day technology is great but also risky.

Importance of the Management Information System | Chron.com - 3 views

  • Management Information Systems (MIS) not only include software systems, but the entire set of business processes and resources that are used to pull together information from functional or tactical systems.
  •
The article outlines the importance of the management information systems. The significances, functions, types, considerations and misconceptions are discussed. The first sentence of the article which is highlighted in yellow is the most crucial part of the article. MIS does not function as one entity, MIS works to service the entire set of business processes and resources within an organization. As MIS combines information from multiple system it gathers an array of information. The more suitable information, the more data that is available to be retrieved in order to assist with positive decision making. The data gathered by MIS is critical for managers. As MIS offers a full circle approach the manager has all the tools available to make a final decision. As noted in the article the primary function of MIS is to help managers take action and answer questions. The article notes MIS is created based on business needs. As no two businesses are 100 percent alike there would be differences in MIS depending on the needs of your organization. MIS should only be used and put into action if it makes business sense for the organization. If the costs will not return positive numbers MIS may not be the option for our organization. If MIS is suitable and has the ability to assist with your daily activities it may be a positive solution for your business. The article ends its overview with misconceptions. One misconception revolving around MIS is that for success to be driven all data must to be used. While it is positive to have an array of information it should always be the manager's role to take in the information and use it as necessary.
