Technology trends are evolving faster than ever this past year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic it has made the Hospitality Industry evolve faster than ever before to meet safety requirements to ensure workers and customers needs. This has taken a big hit on the hotel industry; causing them to change their way of service to meet safety guidelines but also create a positive customer experience and uphold brand standards. The Hotel industry has had to move toward contactless communication, self-service, integrated solutions and virtual reality.

Due to the growing concern of COVID-19, contactless has become the new word of 2020 and into 2021. Making it so that the hotel industry has had to increase their way of communication with their guests. This has pushed towards a direct messaging system. Travelers have needed to ask more questions now more than ever before. This will create a system that will cause ease of mind for guests and workers.

With direct contact being a huge liability for safety, hotels have moved to a contactless way of checking in and out along with self service protocols. Where hotel staffing is at a record low, it has been extremely important for hotel brands to communicate with their guests about their individual procedures on their stay in their hotel.

With labor being down, it is important that hotels invest in technology that will synchronize with each other properly and efficiently. This will make sure that there are less issues and the revenue that is coming in is not being lost in the process. These systems are also imperative for guest engagement and surveying to ensure guest satisfaction.

Virtual Reality technology has been around for a long time now, mainly used for video game users. But, hotels have taken advantage of this technology to promote their hotel. Giving almost real life tours of their property. This is important for a hotel's success for the future. Since leisure traveling is almost obsolete, it is important to plan for the future. Travelers are planning their vacations for this year in hopes that it will be safe for traveling. This will help promote hotels so people can make the best decision on where they are spending their money.

My only concern is will this replace workers after the pandemic has slowed and life goes back to normal. Since the hotel industry is a person-to-person industry, I worry that this will replace it and there will be no human contact or clients will not be happy with having to talk to others when traveling. With investing in systems that essentially do the work of the Front desk and even some sales jobs there will be a decrease in demand. We would see this in the use of Virtual Reality technology. There would no longer be a need for the amount of sales managers possible. I have worked the busiest hotel in Minnesota. We had seven sales managers plus a team of six detailers and we were each individually responsible for giving tours of the hotel to make the sale. With the amount of people virtual reality could replace, these jobs would become nonexistent. If companies are willing to invest this amount of money into new technology they will not want to hire people to a job that they paid for upfront.
