    As teachers, we are always searching for ways to make our classrooms "come alive." Google Earth has done this for us. Inspired by Kelly Tenkely's recent flight adventures using Google Earth, I decided to begin looking for ways to incorporate the idea of a virtual flight into our learning adventures. To give a little background, we are studying the Middle Ages this school year and are currently focusing on the Diaspora of the Jews after the destruction of the Temple by the Romans around 70 AD.

    "Flight to Freedom," takes place in northern Kentucky and southern Ohio, and begins in summer 1848. The game is divided into five parts, as well as a framing prologue and epilogue. Students play this interactive adventure game and assume the role of Lucy. As the game opens, Lucy is a young slave on the King family's plantation outside of Lexington.

    This site rocks! You'll never use PowerPoint again. It takes a while to get used to, but the effort is worth it. I've done up this presentation for my year 11s to introduce them to history. I plan on playing 'Golden Years' by David Bowie and 'Think About It' by Flight of the Conchords in the background as a soundtrack. I'm guessing that you could edit and use it if you wanted. Pretty cool!

    The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Pentagon Memorial Fund, and the Flight 93 National Memorial offer a free online conference, September 11: Teaching Contemporary History, for K-12 teachers. Designed to provide educators with resources and strategies for discussing the September 11 attacks at the 10th anniversary, the conference will include roundtable discussions with content experts and six workshop sessions. These sessions and the conference website highlight resources available at each organization, provide background information on September 11, and encourage conversations on how to document, preserve, and interpret recent history and current events.
