At the moment our faculty is looking for Modern History textbooks, especially for 11 & 12. We're wanting to look abroad for the best ones, probably for either the IB Modern History or AP World History programmes. We would like to get a single, comprehensive textbook rather than many small, thematic ones. Can anyone recommend a good textbook?
Try Strayer's Ways of the World Felipe Fernandez Armesto's The World - This is the one I use for WHAP and I love it as much as I've ever loved a text (read: never!) You can also look at the list of recommended books at the AP World History site. All can be split at around 1500. I also liked Valerie Hansen and Ken Curtis, Voyages In World History. Lastly, J.R. and William McNeill's The Human Web is a trade book to look at.
The AP World educational discussion group (EDG) (i.e. listserv) has several of these discussions a year - once signed up you can check their logs.
