Throughout this entire project I have wrestled with the Diigo technology on a number of platforms. I am not sure if I am the only one to have this experience but it has altered how I feel about this product as it only worked intermittently for me. In general, I really like the features but will it be enough for me to more away from delicious.com? Probably not, as I collect all sorts of links for my own interest and don't have a need to share these with others.
Would I think about using this tool to do collaborative work? If the technology just worked then I think the answer would be yes because I really liked the idea of sharing links in groups, and the highlighting feature and sticky notes were helpful in getting clarification and insight on a website. I think this is where Diigo really shines. If I was going to work collaboratively on a piece of text, I would probably use Google docs as I think it does a better job of collaboratively editing, but if I wanted to make comments on a web page or highlight a webpage element then I think this could be a good tool.
I wonder, now that I have learned about this product, do I have a business or personal need that this product would fill? And I find that the answer for me is no. I enjoyed learning and exploring its features, but this product is not a good fit in my day to day work, especially as it was so temperamental to work with.

    Hi everyone in S603,

Come and visit my group "Makers and Hackers", you will need to request an invitation but you can find the group at http://groups.diigo.com/group/makers-and-hackers.

Your task is to go to http://makezine.com/ and pick a maker project that you find interesting and then share it with the group. Tell us why this interests you and if you would consider creating a library program around this project.

Please write a small description so others can quickly understand the project.

The next task is to go to either Youtube.com or Vimeo.com and do a search on Maker Projects, Makers or Hacker Spaces and share with the group something someone else has made that amazes you or a Maker Space they have created. Again share you bookmark and write a small description and add a sticky note to the video.

Check out the link I found where a maker in Detroit has built their own circus. It is called the Theatre Bizarre.

I have added six bookmarks with highlights and notes in My Library. I have followed the example of others in the class and created a list called experiments.

The focus of these links is how to best use public library space in the future. I have found some interesting examples of where libraries and museums are creating fabrication labs where patrons can come and create and build. I think this will be a challenge libraries face in the future as more content is appear in E-book format or is only created digitally. I am also interested in the Maker Movement and how libraries might create Hacker Spaces.

I have joined a couple of groups and have found the process to be simple and straight forward. (Leadership and Web 2.0)

I have been having trouble using Diigo.com and the highlight and sticky notes do not always appear depending on what version of browser and OS I am using. Sometimes there is a long delay for the highlighting to appear. I have found that my Mac with an older version of Firefox works the best. The worst experience is using Windows 7 with the current version of Firefox and Chrome is not much better on the Window 7 platform.

Initially I found Diigo to be frustrating and I am still not entirely confident that everything I highlight will appear correctly.

Powerful Poems Assignment Fall 2011 - 90 views

Here is a poem by the poet and writer Jim Harrison called "Birds Again." http://diigo.com/0l7l5

Harrison lived for much of his life in upper Michigan and was and still is an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoys bird hunting. Harrison is also part Indian and this might explain why his life and spirit have always been tethered to nature in some manner or it may be just his personal own sensibilities. Harrison is known for having an astounding appetite for both food and drink so the poem may be a slight poke at myself for having actually consumed a vast quantity of game fowl over the years.

The poem to me, reads as both as both prayer and an admission of the birds he has killed and consumed and how their spirits still somehow inhabit his being. Only through an act of personal migration and maybe contrition does he feel the need to carry these birds to their final resting place where they will part and he will be free to leave the world of dreams and return to earth.

I have highlighted the passages that talk about how the birds inhabit his body and how they are released.

To me the things we love live within us long after they have gone and this is why this poem spoke to me.
