I used Diigo once before for this class and it's a pretty neat tool. I hadn't explored the groups feature, so that was interesting. It would be a great place for programming librarians to collaborate on ideas.

I participated in the Makers and Hackers group. I'd never heard of the term 'maker' like this and it was really neat to see different projects. I left a note on a YouTube page explaining why I liked it, and could leave another note near a linked video to show that they're related.

This was really an interesting assignment.

I made a group called "Graphic Novels in Libraries." It can be found here: http://groups.diigo.com/group/graphic-novels-in-libraries.

    There are two tasks:
    1. Visit and provide links with notes to at least three websites that you could use to help determine what kinds of graphic novels are best for your library.
    2. Visit the Wikipedia Award Winning Graphic Novels page and click through to several award lists and informational resources. Provide annotated links for lists that could help you build a good graphic novel collection.

I'm totally interested in graphic novels and became inspired to rejuvenate my love for them and learn more about the history of comics and graphic novels after the Unshelved creators' keynote at ILF 2011. I searched for a few things to do with graphic novels and manga, and also went out on a tangent with Batman, and incredibly popular comic that I know very little about.

My list is here: http://www.diigo.com/list/laurashrti/fiesta-7-list. My profile is here: http://www.diigo.com/list/laurashrti. I had fun with this assignment. It's a good way to bookmark sites for a project or to go back to later. I plan to revisit the history of comics page, which was something Ambaum and barnes talked about extensively.

Powerful Poems Assignment Fall 2011 - 90 views

I like poetry but wanted to find something I haven't read before. I was surprised to see that Sherman Alexie has some poetry! The poem I read, "Grief Calls Us to the Things of This World," was really short but pretty powerful. It's about remembering a deceased loved one when you least expect to have to. Here is a link to my annotated version of the poem: http://diigo.com/0lax8.

I can relate to this poem because most recently, about a year ago my parents' family dog (who I grew up with) died. I knew it was coming but it was still extremely hard. When I go to my parents' house each week I still sometimes expect to see Rusty running up to me. Just the other day my nephew asked where Rusty was, even though it's been a year.

This poem reminds me, however, that these forgetful moments are really just a way to remember deceased loved ones. Each time I expect to see Rusty running towards me when I arrive at my parents' house I get sad but I get to remember all the years I had with him. While there were big special moments, the ones I remember most were the day to day things.
