  I'd argue that mass production schools like phoenix are leading the on-line charge in education, embracing web 2.0 and other technologies to better compete against the old guard and other younger institutions. Sure the old guard have more resources, but are they reaching more students? Will they always have more resources?

I saw some (bad) reality tv program about a family who did this and the wonders it resulted in for this family's quality of life ... I like this idea, especially coupled with discussion afterward among the participants who can, perhaps, realize what all the time spent in Facebook, Twitter, texting, etc. takes away from ....

Indeed, the provision of the state education code does some raise questions about intellectual property and the ownership of ideas and course content. If the students don't own their class-notes - or at least, cannot sell them commercially - who does? The professor? The university? The state?

Confidence-Based Repetition These combined concepts of Repetition, Active Recall, and Metacognition work together to create Brainscape’s unique process of Confidence-Based Repetition (CBR). CBR acts essentially as your personalized knowledge stream, where bite-sized concepts are repeated one after another, in Question/Answer pairs, and then re-entered into the repetition queue in intervals based on your confidence in how well you know them.   "Confidence-based repitition" looks like the direct application of current thinking in neuroscience about how we learn. I wonder how well it really works? It's theory based but not truly field tested.....Not quite iterative research-design-field test-tweak loop Dock's Design course prescribes.

A study being conducted in five universities in the midwest found that students "were basically clueless about the logic underlying how the search engine organizes and displays its results." They found college students poorly filtered results and had difficulty finding 'scholarly sources.' The article also notes a rift between professors and university libraries where professors don't encourage students to seek out research specialists. I've found Gutman's research staff incredibly helpful, specifically with tips on narrowing journal searches.

I would liken this to a graphing calculator (that is typically required of student's to purchase for the purpose of higher math classes) versus the classroom set of calculators typically found in the elementary math manipulative kits - the ultimate purpose of each device is very different - but the basic or fundamental features are the same - so for India, does it matter how "advanced" the system is if they really just want to get the poorest of its citizens on some type of level playing field?
