Marilyn Dahl (University of British Columbia) It is a commonly held theory that one cannot legislate attitude change. One can legislate behavioural change and hopefully changes in attitude will follow. Attitudes, beliefs, and misconceptions of society constitute a major barrier for people with disabilities.

The 10 Golden Rules of Superhero Movies - 4 views

I think that this is easily an example of cultivation theory because it fits with the idea that the more that society spends living in the television world, the more that they try to relate to it. I think that the more that you watch superhero movies, you get this idea in your idea that they have to play out a certain way, and if they were to go against these "golden rules" would the movie still be successful?

A very interesting article on civilian casualties in superhero movies. Has some interesting statistical type information and can be a good article to cite if your research paper has to do with a superhero interacting with the civilian population.

Superheroes, Superpowers, and Sexuality - 4 views

Inherent vs. Gifted Powers The way the superheroes' sexuality is promoted is evident even unto the powers that they wield, and how they gained said powers. The different kinds of powers and the way in which they are used are strictly divided between the male and female heroes.

The Superhero Movie Diversity Race Is Over - WB/DC Wins By a Mile - 3 views

LOS ANGELES - A woman in tights, a "queer" Flash and a black lead - all in a single bound. While Marvel and Sony dither about the diversity of their superhero lineups, DC Comics and Warner Bros. (in conjunction with New Line) punctured every Spandex ceiling on Wednesday when they announced an unprecedentedly diverse lineup of superhero movies. This article, like many others, highlights the lack of diversity in comic-based superhero movies. One aspect of it's content that caught my attention, however, were the examples used to show success in cast diversity. Films like The Hunger Games and Lucy use strong female roles and have had amazing success-- another reason to wonder why Marvel and DC are moving so slowly to do the same.

Why Don't We Doubt Spider-Man's Existence? (1) - 0 views

This article was interesting to me because it touched base on escapism. It shows how easy it is to lose yourself in a movie or a heroes story.
