Duty of Candour not an add-on but fundamental part: GPhC - 0 views

  •
The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has developed two new resources- Keeping patients safe being open and honest and Pharmacy team toolkit - learning from incidents, to help pharmacists and pharmacy technicians fulfil the duty of candour - the professional responsibility to be open and honest with patients if/when something goes wrong. The new resources bring together relevant existing policy, standards, and previous statements on the professional obligations of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, with respect to candour. It also emphasises that the duty of candour is not an add on - it's a fundamental part of pharmacy professional practice. The responsibility to be open and honest applies even in difficult or challenging times and it's essential that professionals do the right thing for patients, their families and carers. Saying sorry meaningfully when things go wrong is vital for everyone involved. Given the link with issues around liability and indemnity, the National Pharmacy Association and the Pharmacists' Defence Association - as leading providers of professional indemnity - have also contributed to the new resources and highlighted the importance of openness and transparency in this context.

Online pharmacy : How risky is the world of pharmacies - 0 views

  •
Online pharmacies have to operate from bricks & mortar premises that are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, but recent cases show that, in reality, the practices of online pharmacies are often very different to other pharmacies, and the regulation of online pharmacies is also different - and evolving as issues arise. For a start, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is only one of the regulators taking an interest in online pharmacy services. Other regulators include the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) which enforces the advertising and promotion of medicines, and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which regulates prescribing services. The different regulation of online pharmacies is attributable to the higher risk to patients and the public from medicines bought online. These risks often arise from a combination of patients who do not tell the truth in order to obtain medicines and the nature of a transaction in which a pharmacist does not see patients face-to-face. "The GPhC has strong enforcement powers that it uses when it considers its premises standards have not complied with." However, there are also things that go wrong because pharmacists have simply failed to act professionally or take sufficient care, as well as cases where things have gone wrong through misfortune.

The prof distributed the question paper, with the front side facing down. when turning in the papers to all the students, he asked them to turn the page and begin the test. To everyone's surprise, there have been no questions within the test paper. There was simply a black dot within the center of the page. everybody was surprised and checked out the prof in awe. The prof told the students: "I need you to write a few lines regarding what you see on the paper." All the scholars were stupefied however since they didn't have a alternative, they started writing the solution. Once everybody was through with the test, the prof collected all the solution sheets, and commenced reading out every answer aloud before of the full class. without an exception, all the scholars had written regarding the black dot, mentioning regarding its position, size etc. when reading out all the answers, the prof addressed the scholars and told them: "None of you'll be ranked on this test. I simply needed you to ponder over one thing. All of you wrote regarding the black dot. nobody wrote regarding the white part of the paper. a similar issue happens in our lives too. we tend to all have a white paper to watch and learn from, nevertheless we tend to continually target the dark spots. we've got so many reasons to celebrate - our folks, co-workers, friends, good health, a satisfactory job, a child's smile, the miracles we tend to witness daily, and so on. However, we tend to merely limit our horizons by focusing on simply the dark spots - our disappointments, our frustrations, our fears and anxieties, things that hassle us, those that wronged us, etc. In our daily lives, we tend to take such a lot of good things with no consideration, and focus our energy on insignificant dot-like failures and disappointments." Causes of Liver Damage and Liver Problems The liver is an organ about the size of a football that sits just under your rib cage on the right side of your abdomen. The liver is essential for digesting food and ridding your body of toxic substances. Liver disease can be inherited (genetic) or caused by a variety of factors that damage the liver, such as viruses and alcohol use. Obesity is also associated with liver damage. Regardless of whether it takes place over many years or a few weeks, liver failure is an absolutely devastating health development that, if left untreated, can result in the death of a patient. There are essentially two types of liver failure: acute, which can emerge over the course of a very short period (such as a few weeks or even less), and chronic, which tends to last many years. Although acute and chronic liver failure patients often experience similar symptoms, the causes of these two conditions - in addition to their treatments - can be unique. Nothing to see here: LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace - 0 views

  •
Later this week I will be speaking at the Pharmacy Business Diversity Conference on a panel exploring LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace. I came out as a gay man at 15 and have been out (openly gay) at work ever since. I've never knowingly suffered homophobia at work, and I know how lucky that makes me. Too many LGBTQ+ people's experience of work is not as positive as mine. Addressing microaggressions When reflecting for the upcoming panel, I realised that, even for people who were not subjected to some of the awful examples I've heard about, working life can be exhausting. Although microaggressions can seem trivial to those not on the receiving end, they create a culture where people feel the need to hide who they are and make work unwelcoming. Most people can understand that shouting homophobic language across an office is wrong. Talking about microaggressions seems to be much more challenging, which is why addressing them in a workplace requires conscious and positive action.
