Hub and Spoke Dispensing Models Set to Transform UK Pharmacy - 0 views

  •
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has finally published its response to the 2022 consultation on hub and spoke dispensing. Considering the consultation evidence and further discussions, the government has expressed its intention to progress the proposals for enabling hub and spoke models across different legal entities as soon as possible. This will be achieved by using the enabling powers outlined in Part 2 of the Medicines and Medical Devices Act 2021 (MMDA) to amend the Medicines Act 1968 and the HMRs. Furthermore, the DHSC has decided to proceed with the implementation of the two models of hub and spoke dispensing that it consulted on. The government response to the consultation reads: "Having considered the responses, the government intend to proceed to implement the necessary changes to medicines legislation to remove the current restrictions that prevent the hub and spoke dispensing models from operating across different legal entities found in section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968.

PSNC launches impact calculator tool for community pharmacy - 0 views

  •
The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) has developed a webtool to help community pharmacy contractors estimate the impact on their payments under the new discount deduction system. The calculator aims to illustrate the changes to discount deduction that a pharmacy could experience during the transition to the new arrangements from October 2022 to January 2024, when the new system will be fully in place. PSNC's calculator requires contractors to input information about their individual pharmacy dispensing mix (i.e. split of reimbursement by appliances, brands and generics) to provide an estimate for the level of impact the new discount deduction system will have. "The impact on individual pharmacies cannot be estimated without using dispensing mix data, meaning that any estimates which do not take this into account will not be reliable," said PSNC. For years many contractors have been frustrated by how discount is applied to their accounts and have often raised concerns about the blanket nature of its application to PSNC.

High medicine price:PSNC concern its impact of on pharmacies - 0 views

  •
The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) has raised concerns over the impact that high medicine price rises are having on contractor. Recently, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has granted the final list of price concessions for December 2022. The latest additions bring the total number of concessionary prices granted for the month of December to 198, surpassing the previous record of 159 granted in September 2022. PSNC has heard from hundreds of community pharmacy contractors who are paying inflated prices for antibiotics used for the treatment of Strep A and who have rightly been concerned about the lack of certainty around the final reimbursement prices for these medicines. It added: "We welcomed the involvement of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to look into the pricing of antibiotics. But the number of reports we are getting from contractors about medicines price rises are just not acceptable and this goes far beyond the antibiotic crisis."

PDA Prescription Charges Coalition Survey - 0 views

  •
Extending its support for the Prescription Charges Coalition (PCC), the Pharmacists' Defence Association (PDA) is asking pharmacists in England to share their experiences of patients denying prescriptions due to financial issues. PDA members who have practiced in the country within the last 12 months are asked to complete the Prescription Charges Coalition survey by Sunday 28 January. The PCC is an alliance of more than 50 organisations campaigning to abolish unfair prescription charges for people with long-term conditions in England. All members of the coalition, including PDA and Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), understand that if patients do not receive their prescribed medicines due to the cost, their health may deteriorate, and this can increase costs for the National Health Service (NHS).

Folding Power Wheelchair - 0 views

  •
Power mobility allows people to move within their home and community and it can help maximize independence for those with limited mobility. The two main types of power mobility available are in the form of electric scooters or power wheelchairs. The choice to use either an electric scooter versus an electric wheelchair depends on the users' needs and abilities. Knowing some of the benefits of power wheelchairs can help in making the right decision. Power wheelchairs also can be classified on the basis of the location of the drive wheels. There are three types of power wheelchairs: front-wheel drive, mid- or centre-wheel drive, and rear-wheel drive. Traditionally, rear-wheel drive powerwheelchairs were preferred because of their similarity to manual wheelchairs in design and maneuverability. However, centre-wheel drive wheelchairs have gained popularity because they provide increased maneuverability. Light weight indoor or portable power chairs are popular, and many are car transportable.. The older type which fold up are more robust, and some can climb small curbs. These are mainly intended for indoor use and for in shopping centres and on very good surfaces, good flat pavements etc. While their small wheels and design enhances manoeuvrability inside, their wheels do not cope well with sudden obstacles, and can be turned sharply by a stone or crack. The needs of the patient, as well as those of the caregiver, are paramount. Power wheelchair seating system include postural support, stability, and pressure distribution. Goals of the mobility system include providing optimal mobility and function. GM LITE POWER WHEELCHAIR: GM Lite Brushless Powered Wheelchairs with Batteries is a revolutionary light weight power wheelchair using brushless motor. It is the most economic power wheelchair without sacrificing safety & durability. The wheelchair promotes pressure redistribution, reduces downward sliding and helps maintain good posture. Transport chairs, also known as companion wheelchairs, have four small wheels instead of two small and two large. A transport chair is designed to only be push by caregiver, other common names are 'companion chair' or 'rollabout chair'. A huge variety of different widths and weight capacities are available. A transport wheelchair is a mobility chair designed for convenience, short-distance use and easy handling by a caregiver. Lightweight and foldable, these wheelchairs are easily moved and typically fit in the trunk of most vehicles. There is even a model designed to fold into a bag to be carried over the shoulder. They are much smaller than standard manual wheelchairs and similar in size to the front wheels. Without large rear wheels, the user must rely on someone else to push the chair, which is why the transport chair is often referred to as a companion wheelchair.
