Stem cells for cancer treatment - 0 views

  •
The blood-forming stem cells used for cancer therapy are called hematopoietic stem cells. They constitute less than one in 1,00,000 bone marrow cells. They look like small lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell in the vertebrate immune system) and cannot be easily distinguished. These cells are capable of self-renewal as well as production of progenitor cells, which differentiate into mature blood cells. Bone marrow, peripheral blood (the blood returning to the heart) and cord blood (obtained from the umbilical cord at birth) are three good sources of hematopoietic stem cells.

Cerebral palsy-also known as CP-is a condition caused by injury to the parts of the brain that control our ability to use our muscles and bodies. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. Often the injury happens before birth, sometimes during delivery, or soon after being born. Physical symptoms typically appear in the first few years of life. Cerebral Palsy are frequently slow to reach developmental milestones such as learning to roll over, sit, crawl, smile, or walk. Cerebral Palsy occurs in 1 in every 300 children (Source: Center for Disease Control). CP can be mild, moderate, or severe. Mild CP may mean a child is clumsy. Moderate CP may mean the child walks with a limp. He or she may need a special leg brace or a cane. More severe CP can affect all parts of a child's physical abilities.Child with moderate or severe CP may have to use a wheelchair and other special equipment. Children with CP can also have learning problems, speech, problems with hearing or seeing (called sensory problems), intellectual differences, and behavioral or emotional challenges. Cerebral palsy does not always cause serious disabilities. Usually, the greater the injury to the brain, the more severe the CP. Teva UK launches generic version of Apixaban - 0 views

  •
Recently launched generic version of Apixaban by Teva UK is said to bring savings to the NHS drug bill while making sure patients get the medicine they need. The generic apixaban is available for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), with one or more risk factors, such as prior stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA) and treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and prevention of recurrent DVT and PE in adults. Previously there was only a 'branded' product available, but Castleford-based Teva UK succeeded in invalidating the apixaban patent and SPC (supplementary protection certificate) in the UK High Court and so is now able to launch its own 'generic' version - which will bring savings for the NHS while making sure patients get the medicine they need. "We've always said that we stand up for the patient", said Kim Innes, General Manager of Teva UK and Ireland. "The launch of generic apixaban emphasises Teva's commitment to doing the right thing by putting patients at the heart of everything we do by giving them and the NHS access to affordable treatments." Apixaban is an anticoagulant which directly inhibits factor X (factor Xa), inhibiting thrombin formation and the development of thrombi (blood clots). For at-risk patients, such as those with, or at risk for DVT, or NVAF, the risk of stroke related to blood clots forming in the body and traveling to the brain is a serious concern. Each year, DVT affects around 1 person in every 1,000 in the UK and if left untreated, about 1 in 10 people with a DVT will develop a PE.

Benefits of Echinacea to Support Your Health - 0 views

Benefits of Echinacea for Health and Wellness The Echinacea plant is still in benefit today as a dietary supplement. It has nine species, but only two of them, Echinacea purpurea and Echinacea angustifolia are generally used in supplements. Other supplements are in pill form, teas, juices, and creams. It possesses many compounds that may benefit your health. 1/10_ It treat infections and wounds Echinacea has been used for centuries to treat infections and wounds. In fact, the Native Americans used echinacea to treat their cuts, burns, bruises, and insect bites. They'd apply the fresh plant directly onto their skin to heal those wounds faster than they would have otherwise. It has also been shown in multiple studies to be effective in treating colds and other infections. This benefit is believed to be due to its immune-boosting properties that help strengthen your body's defenses against bacteria. ECZEMA People with eczema suffer from an inflammation of the skin; a cream including echinacea extract may benefit. Early research suggests that daily topical application of echinacea cream helped alleviate eczema-related irritation. It also helped create the protective outer layer of skin. Be aware of probable allergic reactions, as people with eczema generally have allergies and asthma. 2/10_Antioxidant powerhouse Antioxidants are substances that protect you from disease by neutralizing or eliminating the damaging effects of free radicals. Free radicals are atoms, molecules, or ions in your body that have an unpaired electron and can cause oxidative stress in your cells. Echinacea is a powerful antioxidant that helps fight the free radicals that cause damage to cells and tissues. Free radicals may contribute to cancer development, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer's disease, and many other chronic diseases. Echinacea has been shown in studies to positively impact the immune system by boosting its response against infection-causing

wheelchair category (standard, transport, power, etc.) could be classified as a reclining wheelchairs, since the product class is built around one key feature: the capability to adjust the backrest and/or footrest into a reclined position. This feature is especially important to users who find it difficult or impossible to sit in a fully upright position, and users who sleep in their chairs frequently. For those that are looking for a more portable chair, however, products from this category may not be a great fit. When compared with a similar, non-reclining chair, a reclining wheelchair tends to weigh more and - unlike other manual models - manual wheelchairs that recline typically aren't foldable. Some people use special wheelchairs to distribute pressure and thus reduce the risk of skin sores. These chairs also increase comfort and sitting tolerance. One type of chair, called "tilt in space," changes a person's orientation while maintaining fixed hip, knee, and ankle angles. The whole seat, in effect, tilts. Wheelchair : Handicap Products: Benefit Of Reclining Wheelchair - 0 views

  •
For people who spend the majority of their days sitting in standard wheelchairs or lying in beds, pressure sores are a very probable reality. Yet they don't have to be, thanks to assistive technology like tilt or recline wheelchairs that help distribute pressure to other parts of the body. While pressure relief is the main objective to using either a tilt wheelchair or a recline wheelchair, each has its unique qualities that help with posture. (Even though some chairs come with both tilt and recline options, for clarity purposes, they will be addressed as two separate seating systems.) "Obviously, a tilt wheelchair does a better job of providing postural stability by not changing any of the angles of the knee and hip, while recliners allow the pelvis and hips to move through approximately 90 degrees of motion. Both seating systems have their own specific functions," noted David Kreutz, PT, seating specialist at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. Reclining wheelchairs move the body from a flexed position to an extended position, making the chairs more likely to elicit a spastic response in the user. Because tilt and recline chairs use gravity to their advantage and come with head rests, patients who have poor head, neck and trunk control may benefit from the stability and balance they provide. When in tilt or recline, gravity helps the patient improve balance and head control. Once a tilt chair is prescribed for a patient, it is important to teach the caregivers how to use the tilt function and position the patient correctly. If a patient is cognitively intact, it is also important to teach that individual how he or she should be positioned in the chair, to be able to instruct caregivers. Candidates who would be suited for a recliner chair are those who cannot achieve a 90-degree hip-to-back angle when sitting. For example, patients who have hip precautions following total hip replacement surgery, patients who have had cardiac surgery and might develop

Tricycle Specially For Disabled People - 0 views

Tricycle FOr Disabled People People with disabilities have often been excluded from mobility and access opportunities. Certainly, our public transport system has some way to go before it is even close to being accessible to everyone. With cycling for people with disabilities becoming one of the fastest-growing areas of interest in the cycling world, it is likely that cycling with its versatile simplicity and low running costs will succeed in providing access where other forms of transport have failed. Small-scale manufacturers are combining innovation with positive attitude and designing cycles that meet abilities. "Most of the people who depend on these tricycles are daily wage workers who have to travel long distances every day. The regular tricycles have no suspension and the riders are prone to spinal injuries. Most of them also cannot afford good medical care, and driving these tricycles for a long time affects their back," he added. We have several bicycles for people who have a problem with cycling. We produce special bicycles, tricycles, tricycles for children, adult tricycles, tandems, side by side bikes, wheelchair bikes, wheelchair transport bikes, a walking aid and a bicycle for the transport of 8 children.
