Smories is a website with short videos of children reading original stories for kids. There are 50 new Smories added every month. Writers are encouraged to submit their original children's stories to be featured on the website. The stories are advertised as being suitable for children aged three to eight although there are many stories that would also appeal to children older than eight. This site offers a great way to model reading with expression and can also be used as a comprehension activity. Encourage the students to picture the story in their mind as they listen. Listening to Smories is also a good way to revise the features of a narrative.

This programe features seven video clips that are designed for teachers to use on their interactive whiteboard when teaching literacy. Suitable for Years 1 - 7, each of the short clips sets up an environment or a narrative that can be used to fire the children's imagination. An alluring jewellery shop, a ghostly graveyard and a tunnel with a warning are just three of exciting story starts included.

Use the information in the "story plant" to create the beginning to a story. Students can print off their story to complete themselves.
