I love books as much as anybody. But I love reading more. It is the sustained and individual encounter with ideas and stories that is so bewitching. If new formats allow us to have more of those, let us welcome and learn from them.

Marvell and E Ink team up to improve e-readers. Their new integrated processor will reduce the screen refresh rate from three seconds to less than one second and will eliminate the "blackout" effect with page turns.
Borders has announced that it will close approximately 200 stores in its Waldenbooks Specialty Retail group in January. The store closings will leave Borders with about 130 mall-based outlets. About 1,500 positions will be eliminated in the downsizing, most of which are part-time jobs.
